GeneralT001 Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 I was wondering if all Mooneys and specifically the M20J's have fuel cells/bladders as opposed to a wet wing? Quote
carusoam Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 GT, edit your title… Use the words…. Bladders for M20J… Or use the search… Expect that there is a long running discussion about who uses what and why… Where to buy.. Who does the installs… How many bladders, for how much total useful fuel…. What you will find… Proper resealing does a great job… Modern materials, modern technique… much has changed over the last decade… Bladders are good too… they have a different set of problems… including weight… Its your plane… you decide… Best regards, -a- Quote
1980Mooney Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) All Mooney's come from the factory with "wet wing" fuel tanks. Bladders are only seen as a retrofit solution. This article is from 2009. Double the prices mentioned in the article for a more accurate estimate of today's costs. https://www.knr-inc.com/25-shoptalk/24-200910-ribs-wet-or-dry I just had the left wing in a J model patched. It has Monroy extended range tanks added but they only found leaks in the main (original) tank - 4 leaks in total. The cost of repair was $3,000. Edited December 11, 2021 by 1980Mooney 2 Quote

The one I have has 93 Gal (just bought it) so I assume it has added tanks (Monroy Auxiliary Fuel Tanks (adds 29 US Gallons), Total is 93 US Gallons Useable) and those would be "bladders" but the others would be wet wings? The Monroy Auxiliary tanks are just a wet wing extension of the basic original wet wing. Quote

Isn't the K standard fuel capacity 75 gal vs. 64 in the J? Something internal is slightly different. I believe the external dimensions of both wings are the same as well as the internal structural components. Quote
