My '67F's engine was overhauled 3-4 years ago (IO-360 A1A).  An EDM-730 was installed.  Many years before that, the airplane had a Hobbs meter installed in addition to the original tachometer. The Hobbs meter was removed long ago.  Today, during annual inspection, I noticed a small oil leak.  It appears to be coming from a T in an oil line between the engine and firewall.  The T supports an oil pressure switch or sensor.  I'm trying to figure out if the oil pressure switch or sensor is left over from the old Hobbs meter installation, or it it supports current equipment.  Does anyone know if an oil pressure switch is needed for any function other than possibly a Hobbs meter?  I'm assuming the EDM logs time based on a oil pressure trigger point.  Thoughts appreciated; if possible, I'd like to remove the device and the T and replace the line to minimizes potential sources of leaks and failure.  Thanks.

Transducer was determine to be a OP sensor associated with the EDM.

There weren’t any OilP switches for M20Cs leaving the factory…

The mechanical tach was responsible for Hobbs data…

The M20F was built concurrently with near identical equipment…

Expect an oil switch to have details of its installation in its airframe or engine log…

There weren’t any idiot lights mounted in the panel… probably an intentional step to keep idiots from flying Mooneys… :)

There weren’t any annunciator panels either…

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic…

Appreciate the insight.   I need to dredge through the log books.  As you know, it's a chore though after so many years.  They are no longer a book; they are a box of books and files.  :>  Might be able to determine if it actually does anything with a little troubleshooting too.  Thanks.

DC,

I went through 5.5khrs of log books for my M20C once…

Just once… making notes of every important entry there was…

The notes are pretty short…

oil changes on an engine, two engines ago… not very meaningful anymore…

Some things are easy… if it were related to loran… or GPS….

or if it were digital….

some things are easier than others…

Best regards,

Pulled up the EDM installation manual.  It looks like the device in question, is a pressure sensor (not a switch) that feeds the EDM.  I may delete my original post to avoid any future confusion.  Will discuss with mechanic tomorrow.

Keep the post, just edit it to also contain the answer, so it is obvious to the next person with a similar issue.

yes, what is described would be your EDM oil pressure sensor. that is the preferred installation location so that it senses oil pressure at the primary or certified oil pressure location at the rear.
