Celso Backes Posted March 30, 2021 Report Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) I just bought, well 3mo ago a 1969 M20e and ha ve been using Aroshell aviation oil 100w. Is this what you all use or is there something better to run in it. Edited March 30, 2021 by Celso Backes Quote
dzeleski Posted March 30, 2021 Report Posted March 30, 2021 Where are you located? And where do you plan on flying? 100w is fine in the summer for most parts of the world. 100w in the north will be a real issue during the winter. I personally use Phillips XC 20w50 all year round and live in the NE. 2 Quote

dzeleski Posted March 30, 2021 Report Posted March 30, 2021 Just now, Celso Backes said: Montgomery AL deep south brother!!!!! 100w will be less of a problem but if you plan on flying north you will absolutely need a preheat in the winter. Aeroshell is fine, consider using camguard as well. 1 Quote
Celso Backes Posted March 30, 2021 Author Report Posted March 30, 2021 Is Camguard better or just another brand name but same oil??? Quote
GeeBee Posted March 30, 2021 Report Posted March 30, 2021 Camguard is an oil additive designed to inhibit corrosion. You add it 5 % by volume so typically on an 8 qt oil change add 13 oz. Does it work? Engine guru Mike Busch says it does and he has oil analysis to prove his point. If I had a Lycoming engine like yours, I absolutely use it, but I also "absolutely" use it in my Continental. Quote
Celso Backes Posted March 30, 2021 Author Report Posted March 30, 2021 Thank you I appreciate the feed back... Quote

AeroShell 15W-50 works fine year round and won't cause trouble if you fly north during the bad part of their year. Are you at MGM or somewhere else? Quote
