The missile had dual landing lights on the cowling.  Both have burnt out, and I need to swap them.  When I purchased the plane, a box of parts came with it, including tow GE bulbs.  I'll of course check the numbers before I install them, but are there any catches in the dual landing light setup that I need to know about?  The F model had a single bulb in the cowl.

Thanks in advance for your expertise.

We are having the Whelen Par 36 LED's put in tomorrow for taxi & wing lights on the wings of our 20J, Our GE bulbs kept burning out and the LED's should last years.

I don't think they are but the difference is very acceptable to me and the reliability makes up for it.  Maybe a better way to say it is they aren't as bright when the incandescents work and way brighter when they don't!

H.I.D.'s are a heckuva lot brighter than LED's and have a 2,000 hour life.  More expensive too, but not by a large $ amount.  They also publish their candlepower, 750,000.

Not a lot more expensive?  My two lights cost $450.  I was quoted over $1800 to install ($900 each) the HIDs.  The HIDs last longer than incandescents but not as long as LEDs.  They are clearly brighter than either LED or incandescents though.

What is the vibration resistance of the HIDs vs the LEDs?

Mix and match:

If you were to for instance put in a Whelen taxi light and a HID as your landing light, or maybe the Lo Preseti Boom Beam as the landing light, would that cause an issue with wiring?  I don't plan to do this, but the potential for conflict with the wiring, since my guess is it is on the same circut, or potentially the heat build up in one bulb affecting the cooler taxi light, raises question for concern.

Currently, I do plan to put in two Whelen lights in the future unless some other drop in replacements mature that are less expensive, high quality, and make sense.  Right now the plan is one taxi light and one landing light.

Separately, and due to time, I simply paid the $9 each for two incandesant bulbs and replaced both Monday evening night as I have a night flight to go see my little brother for dinner tonight (he's a college senior about a three hour drive or forty minute flight away).  However, I will perform this upgrade in the near future.  We'll see how long these landing lights last.
