Jhj123 Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 Everyone, thanks for helping me previously with my other noob questions. I wanted to get a little bit of clarity on process and sequencing for my purchase. I think the escrow will start early next week. I have the inspection scheduled for Friday next week. Since the plane is across the country, I’m not planning to attend the inspection. Once the inspection is complete and any issues resolved, I think the title work should be done by that time. Let me know if you guys recommend a better sequencing? How do I handle the period between inspection and aircraft delivery? As in how do I know that the seller didn’t have a hard landing or bang a wing on the hangar door? ‘Thanks. Quote
carusoam Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 Finance insurance hangar, cover... nick nacks... Purchase agreement, details at least on a napkin... Get a flight in if able... PPI Updates based on PPI info... Trading papers registration (pink paper, don’t misplace it) A two to four week process two is fast... four is long... self induced updates Transition Training Delivery flight Homecoming party... PP thoughts off the top of my head... probably missing a few things... Best regards, -a- Quote

I cant tell you how many times I jumped into and airplane to buy it only to find that it was unairworthy during the PPI. The two worst airplanes I found were, one owned and maintained by an IA and the other was delivered to me in NJ from Vanbortel in Dallas...both times the mechanic had to ground the airplane on the spot and the PPI is not even an inspection in that sense....but if the mechanic sees something that can kill the pilot he must speak up and do what is right.... Get the inspection first....you will find that GA is the "Wild West" of ideas of how to best maintain an airplane....for the most part pilots are cheap and most planes have issues....the ones that don't have issues get bought before they are officially for sale.... Jhj123 Posted October 4, 2020 Author Report Posted October 4, 2020 Great. For the flight, I was thinking of maybe calling a local flight school to pay an instructor to fly it and check it after ppi. Again, if the ppi or flight test have issues then I didn’t waste my time going across the country. Quote

I had the guy doing my PPI pick it up and deliver it back... that guy was a Mooney specific mechanic, so he knew a lot about how they were supposed to fly... that mechanic was a guy / entity named DMax... Kind of a one stop shopping experience... all the electronics got a full exercise to make sure each antenna was connected... +1 on Jim’s advice above... I brought a plane for the PPI that was so bent, rivets were falling out and missing... And Bondo was falling out of the dented wing... You can pretty much set some expectations about the plane... ships that cost as much as your house are not nearly as wild as the ones that cost as much as you car... (Both are still expensive) Best regards, -a- Quote
tmo Posted October 4, 2020 Report Posted October 4, 2020 From reading MooneySpace I got the impression that you should start with a hangar. Should you come into one before you find a plane, buy the cheapest shell to put in it, if you can't sublet it, and intensify the search. Coincidentally I did the same thing, started leasing half a hangar three or so years before I found my plane. 2 Quote
Paul_Havelka Posted October 4, 2020 Report Posted October 4, 2020 Before it goes for the PPI make sure you have a solid purchase agreement in place that lists the agreed upon price, items responsible by seller(typically ANY airworthiness items), scope of PPI and timeframe, estimated closing date, etc. For insurance we have a few guys around here that can help you with that. The 2 gentlemen at Airspeed Insurance Agency are very familiar with Mooneys. Just contact @Parker_Woodruff or myself and we can see what kind of magic we can try and work for you in the current environment. @carusoam left out his best and most frequently used line in his response. Go Mooney! Fixed that for you bud...lol 1 Quote
Jhj123 Posted October 4, 2020 Author Report Posted October 4, 2020 Thanks. I need to reach out to Parker. Is there a contract that someone can share as a starting point? I saw the AOPA sample contract, but just wondering if there is a better option used by MS members. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

He needs some good work to do while he sits in quarantine for 2 weeks Quote

My plane is hangared in Florida...I recently took it to NJ for a little over three weeks...it only rained about once that I could think of....the plane was a total mess in that time. Actually it was a total mess in a week....my brother and I spent a good amount of time cleaning it up before my trip back south.... Quote
Rusty Pilot Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 I know it's tough to get across the country for a flight, but airfare's are cheap and I strongly suggest you fly the plane first even if it from the right seat. Best of luck with your purchase! Quote
