Greg252AY Posted September 13, 2020 Report Posted September 13, 2020 The oil rod for my tsio 360mb engine broke and I have been shopping for a new one. Its hard to imagine that a new one cost over $300. Is it possible to find a generic oil rod and make my own marking? Does anyone know of a salvage tsio 360mb engine i could buy the oil rod from? Looking at the part numbers from Continental it looks like the MB engine has its own part number as compared to every other tsio 360 engine built. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated before I send off $312 for a $10 dip stick. Quote
neilpilot Posted September 13, 2020 Report Posted September 13, 2020 Years ago the oil rod separated from the cap on my IO-360-A1A. I took it to work and had a welder reattach the rod. It was an unapproved repair that was never logged, but I'm likely protected by the statute of limitations. Quote
carusoam Posted September 13, 2020 Report Posted September 13, 2020 There are threads around here that cover this issue... There must be a bazillion used Lycoming dipsticks in the market... probably half a bazillion Continental dipsticks... Probably takes a good pic, including a yard stick, to make sure you get the right one to match your specific engine... Is there a part number to go with that? The reason you have to pay $300 for a dip stick for your particular engine... is probably the lack of info you are supplying... Somebody might have one around here... if you make it easy enough for them to look at it and know... they might take the next step and answer... When trying to save $300... leave nothing to chance... When you have a unique engine... leave nothing to chance... If you don’t mind paying the most, to have the most convenience... call your local MSC. Lets start from the top... Best regards, -a- Quote
DonMuncy Posted September 13, 2020 Report Posted September 13, 2020 Try the salvage yards. There is one at Lancaster TX. Air Salvage of Dallas. They are still expensive. Last used one I priced was about $75 if my memory serves. But better than $312. Quote
PT20J Posted September 14, 2020 Report Posted September 14, 2020 When I returned my IO-360-A3B6D core to Lycoming for credit, Lycoming stipulated that the engine had to be complete and they specifically called out the dipstick. Now I understand why 1 Quote
