shawnd Posted May 3, 2020 Report Posted May 3, 2020 Hello folks, Wondering if "broken case short stud" is a common problem in 231s or is this indicative of vibrations due to motor mount issues or imbalanced prop? Scanning through logbooks for a pre-buy exam and this caught my eye. It seems to be relatively inexpensive part (643651-1) based on: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/continentalnewstuds_07-05748.php?clickkey=1522790 The aircraft has had a few of them replaced. I don't have the service manual so can't really place where they go. If anyone has the manuals I can look please let me know. Shawn
Guest Posted May 3, 2020 Report Posted May 3, 2020 It’s a cylinder hold down stud on many TCM engines, kind of odd in my experience. Item #13 in the picture. Clarence
shawnd Posted May 3, 2020 Author Report Posted May 3, 2020 Hmm ... wondering if it could have been due to improper torquing? Thanks @M20Doc for sharing the pic.
