2 days ago I dropped 52Q off at chandler avionics in order to get its ADS-B and a few other couple upgrades towards the panel. one thing I wanted to do was upgrade the switches. The ones I've really been liking are these laser etched rocker switches. They look pretty cool but don't have a PMA or TSO, however other panels such as @Kris_Adams and @Trailboss have been able to upgrade their switches. I'm not calling them out, but I'm just trying to figure how to do this legally. the ETA switches are nice, but for $375 bucks a pot, I can have all the other switches replaced for way less and not have to be completely shocked when one of the eta switches goes. also being able to sell all the switches for 200ish bucks gets me a couple extra bucks, and allows me to get overall way cooler looking switches.

Reviewing the pics and details that the other guys have posted... follow their lead...

Got room for adding a bank of CBs?

Getting all the bits and pieces installed and documented may take up some of the excess AMU that was generated...

But the modern image is fantastic... take a look at what the modern Mooneys are using coming out of the factory are using...

If going all electric in the future, plan on adding an essential bus, while moving CBs around... and adding a second alternator...

Cool stuff to consider... things I have seen around MS.

One problem might be that these are only switches while the other are actually circuit breakers. So you need to have seperate breakers somewhere..

And if you use standard approve CBs, then I would think any switch that exceeds specs for current, voltage, etc would be a minor mod.

I don't mind getting additional circuit breakers for switches. that's the least of my problems. so if I list it as a minor mod, it wouldn't be an issue?

Check with your mechanic...

for the details...

When Adding additional CBs...

Put all the CBs in place...

Wire the devices to the new CBs...

Wire the switches to the other end of the CBs...

Update your electrical drawings to match your changes...

You have simply taken a device and broke it into two... nothing different except the number of wires you have added...

Your mechanic will love you if he needs some easy work... or think your nuts for spending money making your plane look nicer...

It only matters to you, your financial administrator, and you passengers...

Before you go this far... take a look at what Mooney is currently using... they have very modern looking switches...  check to see if they meet your requirements...

See if the new Mooney switches can be used on the existing panel...as a direct replacement...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

I would, but i know for a fact if i order from mooney, they will be 300 instead 30. And theyll add 40 bucks for shiping per switch. At least thats how it came out during the annual.

The important parts of the discussion...

1) These devices exist.

2) They work in a Mooney.

3) They appear to be the same standard size we are familiar with...

4) if they match your desire...

5) Mooney doesn’t build them...

6) I know the Next steps... :)

7) So does about 1,999 other MSers, in case I’m on vacation...

8) If $300 per switch is too costly, pay attention closely to the hardware, installation, and documentation costs of your favorite alternative... now you have two solutions to compare...

9) it looks like some panel mods are going to be needed either way... screen printing of the panel seems to go with the more modern switches...

10) review again what TrailBoss has on his most fancy panel... i don’t remember if the new switches are labeled already or not...

How does that sound?

Best regards,
