RobertGary1 Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 Does this look like corrosion ? IA says to sand it off and prep/prime but it doesn’t sand off too easily. Any other opinions? Quote
RLCarter Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 Not sure I would use sandpaper, scotch-brite pads would be my choice Quote
Yetti Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 The black spots are. If you are talking about the trailing edge stuff grey spot it looks like overspray from when the area above it was touched up. Quote
Yetti Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 The stuff above needs to be feathered then resprayed. 600 grit is your friend. Quote
BKlott Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 (edited) Maroon colored scotch-brite pads with mineral spirits to start with. Edited August 8, 2019 by BKlott Quote
carusoam Posted August 9, 2019 Report Posted August 9, 2019 That looks like multiple layers of coatings... some paint... Corrosion typically will have some white dust associated with it... and the surface will show some erosion as the corrosion gets cleaned off.... So the stuff that is flaking off and leaving a really flat smooth surface behind, probably isn’t corrosion... Use caution when sanding... it is really easy to remove the anti corrosion surface of Alclad.... may be better to use a solvent paint remover. What surface is that? Solvents can cause a bunch of challenges too... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... best regards, -a- Quote
