Joe Afonso Posted May 28, 2019 Report Posted May 28, 2019 Hi all, somehow during my major overhaul my dip stick has vanished, how I’ll never know. Does anyone happen to have a spare? Mine measures about 22” overall length and 8 qts showed 8 qts. thanks in advance.
carusoam Posted May 29, 2019 Report Posted May 29, 2019 Joe, If you don’t hear a good answer from MS.... they are most likely engine specific... O360-A1D is pretty specific about spec(ing) parts for your engine... New... Find the Lycoming supplier of your choice... Used... Ebay probably is the way to go... Most expensive new parts can be found at your local MSC. Dan @ Lasar can probably find it pretty cost effectively... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
Guest Posted May 29, 2019 Report Posted May 29, 2019 You need an LW14758 oil gauge rod. Af few appear on www.controller.com Clarence
0TreeLemur Posted May 29, 2019 Report Posted May 29, 2019 The dipstick on my bird has a groove about 1/8" wide and 20% deep about 3-4" above the 8 qt mark where it looks like it rubs on something inside the engine. Is this common? Replace?

Guest Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 The oil dip stick passes through a hole in the oil sump at the bottom of the filler tube. Years of vibrations wear the hole and the stick. For the OP there are a number of oil dip sticks on eBay. Clarence
carusoam Posted June 2, 2019 Report Posted June 2, 2019 Clarence, That is some interesting detailed knowledge you have... In a similar situation... The IO550 uses a wire rope type flexible stick, with an ordinary dipstick swaged to the end... Any idea why this type of construction? It is a bit challenging to get the tip to find the small hole at the bottom of the larger oil fill tube. Best regards, -a-
