O360-A1D oil dip stick

Recommended Posts

Joe,

If you don’t hear a good answer from MS....

they are most likely engine specific...  O360-A1D is pretty specific about spec(ing) parts for your engine...

New... Find the Lycoming supplier of your choice...

Used... Ebay probably is the way to go...

Most expensive new parts can be found at your local MSC.

Dan @ Lasar can probably find it pretty cost effectively...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

Best regards,

The dipstick on my bird has a groove about 1/8" wide and 20% deep about 3-4" above the 8 qt mark where it looks like it rubs on something inside the engine.   Is this common?   Replace?

Hmm, mine does as well.

The oil dip stick passes through a hole in the oil sump at the bottom of the filler tube.  Years of vibrations wear the hole and the stick.

For the OP there are a number of oil dip sticks on eBay.

Clarence,

That is some interesting detailed knowledge you have...

In a similar situation...

The IO550 uses a wire rope type flexible stick, with an ordinary dipstick swaged to the end...

Any idea why this type of construction?

It is a bit challenging to get the tip to find the small hole at the bottom of the larger oil fill tube.
