dang... now you've got me looking at 58P's.... you're right, the prices are low!  Up until now I'd been looking at old Mirage's, dreaming that maybe in 5-10 years I'd be able to pick one up.  But an older 58P goes for 120-140k... that's over 100k less than a Mirage for the same capability... if only fuel wasn't so expensive... sigh...

Congrats Ken!!!  I used to have a BE58TC, and have really missed it at times.  I too have been watching the twin prices go down, and have been thinking about one of the baby Barons.  I flew several different models with the Colemill conversion, and they are great.  Sweet flying aircraft.

I once owned a B55...what a sweet flying airplane...fast and perfect control harmony.  Miss it very much, except for during annual or when a conti cylinder would crump or bladder tank would bust.   @576  the guy in the hangar next to mine has a 58P.  A jerk in a jet banged up his windshield (rocks), it was over 20k to replace (other guys insurance)!  His rear side window busted out last week.   3-5k (out of pocket) to replace and 8-10 week wait...no thanks!

Nice bird Ken!

A good friend of mine has a B55 that I have flew right seat and enjoyed thoroughly... It found it to be a joy to fly, great control harmony if not a bit light in pitch. All around a forgiving AC except for when we pulled up to the pump... I'm curious to see if it takes..or if you're back inside of Mooney in 18months... anyone taking odds?

congats Ken....There are definitely times I miss my D55 Baron...great control harmony and very fast...not as fast as the Bravo...but would climb out at 1500 ft per min and cruise at 16ooo with a 20 gal total fuel burn...and had a ton useful load....not a missprint...2000lbs...and would go into short strips I wouldnt dare put the Mooney in...still...paying for 2 of everything....good luck..kpc

I used to have a Bravo Wink

In the Bravo, at 17,500 ft I got 195 KTAS at 19.5 GPH. In the Baron at 8,500 ft I'll get 180 KTAS at 22 GPH (I can burn a LOT more gas and go a bit faster if I choose).

With the Bravo, full fuel, full TKS, a weekend bag and me and I was at gross. In the Baron I have 1,778 lb useful load.

Overall, I think the Baron suits me well at this point in my flying.

Ken...my experience with the Big engine continentals(I dont see the air scoop on top of the cowl in the avatar picture so yours must be a "B model)that they were happiest at 25 squared...that worked out to be closer to 30 gal and hour.Mine had alky props for ice protection and that was it...it would carry more ice than the mooney wing though.Make sure your spar carrythru is free of cracks and that landing gear moter/transmission has been serviced.I did have to replace 3 or 4 jugs during the first engine run and than none on the later factory new engines i hung in 2000.Oleo struts were a constant problem as they would leak down...you want about a hand with in the main scissor.I used to take 5 and 6 seats out and put a couple 50cc mini bikes back there to get arround...great fun...goodluck with new bird..sinc kp couch
