Good morning  guys, so I had a little incident putting my plane back in the hangar and bent the trailing edge on my left elevator down a bit, not bad but bad enough it needs replacement,  I found an airplane salvage company that will remain nameless for now, they had a bunch of mooney stuff and they had the best prices, so I call them, tell them I have a 1963 mooney M20C and need a LH elevator,  the guy says yup we have one and gave me  a good deal on it, cost me 150$ to ship it here but whatever,  it shows up to my shop, I spend hours stripping it and alodining it and epoxy priming it, I brought my old elevator down to the shop to weigh them both and at that time noticed the new one they sent me is corrugated and my old one is smooth, never even thought twice about it until I saw them side by side,  so I call the company as they have several of the right ones thinking they will apologize for the mishap and promptly send out the  correct one and refund me for the incorrect one but I was mistaken. There is a price difference between the 2 the one I need is more money which I'm fine with  but they  are telling me I have to pay to ship the wrong on back and pay to to ship the  right one down, so there's 300$ more in shipping plus the 150$ I paid to ship the wrong to me, I'm really not satisfied with the situation and the way they are handling this, so I'm going to talk with the owner of the company tomorrow and I  need some good info as to why THEY made the mistake  and sent me the wrong one. They said the one they sent me came off the identical plane as mine so the question is when did they use the corrugated control surfaces and on what? From what I can tell the E and later models used them but all the Cs I've ever seen have smooth surfaces. Need some ammo for the battle that's going to  ensue tomorrow, maybe I'm wrong here but I'm not  seeing it but I need facts to present him with and hopes they make this right instead of telling me I'm on my own like they already have been, thanks in advance!

Yeah I did precisely the same thing to the left elevator on my ‘68C.  It is smooth-  i researched the parts carefully at the time looking for a deal on an elevator.  The corrugated ones only appeared in ‘69.   If a corrugated one came off a ‘63C, then they were both replaced ag some point on that plane. More likely, the part was just cataloged incorrectly.

Well I'm glad to hear that this wasn't me.. if they indeed were both replaced would that even be legal? I would assume they have a different part number and without an STC I didn't think you could do that.
