bill98 Posted August 20, 2018 Report Posted August 20, 2018 Has anyone had issues with their GN430W getting satellite signal after putting a Scout or Sentry in the cockpit? anyone notice any 430 satellite issues in general as of late? Quote
kortopates Posted August 20, 2018 Report Posted August 20, 2018 You are probably getting interference affecting your GPS signal from something. You can test for this on the ground by parking the aircraft on the ramp where it has an obstructed view of the sky and bring up the satellite page on your GNS430W - last nav page. Then turn on your portable device and see if it degrade the green bars on the satellite page. If so, you can try placing the portable in places away from the GPS - such as back seat for differences. Mine stays on the backseat and works fine from there. 1 Quote
Yetti Posted August 21, 2018 Report Posted August 21, 2018 It would seem strange that the local osoclator from the scout would have enough to interfere. But you might have placed it on the same side as the GPS coax. Try moving it to the other side of the plane. Also there is a minimum distance between the GPS antenna and the VHF/DME Antennas Quote
nfonville Posted August 21, 2018 Report Posted August 21, 2018 There was an issue with some of the first antennas shipped for the G430W taking everything out when beginning to fail. I personally had this exact issue with my G530W. It's well documented and a replacement antenna solved the issue. Quote
carusoam Posted August 22, 2018 Report Posted August 22, 2018 Some things that have been reported to interfere with GPS signals... A pair of Garmin radios with antennas located improperly.... early challenge from a decade ago... Narco radios... they emit so much noise they drown out a lot of things... Somebody recently found a particular satellite beacon safety system to be problematic as well... Start by turning everything off, and start turning on one device at a time... the GPs will have a satellite strength page that you can watch. PP thoughts only, stuff I read around MS... Best regards, -a- Quote
