carusoam Posted April 6, 2018 Report Posted April 6, 2018 Only sort of... they don’t both normally go straight up and down... There are a few threads around that cover this. Good luck finding the explanation from the thousands of similar posts... Got any pics while up on jacks? Flush while closed is what they are set for... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted April 6, 2018 Report Posted April 6, 2018 The co-pilots side door must close befor the other one so they will overlap. The lever arm on the co-pilots side is shorter so it closes first. The pilots door has a longer arm so it opens further. 1 Quote
jetdriven Posted April 6, 2018 Report Posted April 6, 2018 They dont have to rest like that when open. Moving the spacers on the gear door side of the opening pushrod can help,. also, changing the eccentric clocking on the retract truss where the pushrods go is another. But you must re-rig the nose gear preload and check all 3 gear if you touch the eccentrics. Quote
RLCarter Posted April 6, 2018 Report Posted April 6, 2018 My right door doesn't open to a full 90°, and the left opens just past 90°. Like others have said, put it on jacks and retract the gear and see what you have. I wouldn't be surprised if the left door has an inch or so gap when closed 1 Quote
takair Posted April 6, 2018 Report Posted April 6, 2018 Does not look right for your vintage. While they are typically not symmetrical and no two seem to look alike, yours seems quite off. As RL suggested, yours may not be closing all the way. Suggest a gear swing. 2 Quote
BigD Posted April 6, 2018 Author Report Posted April 6, 2018 Thanks everyone for suggestions. Gear swing is what I will do next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
1967 427 Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 You will have to zoom in, here is what mine looks like. Slightly less than 90 on one side and very close to 90 on the other. Quote
carusoam Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Great pic from 427! And explanation of what is in the pic... For best viewing... click on the photo before zooming in... The original pic has the definition that isn’t available from the post. Best regards, -a- Quote
MB65E Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Appears you have overlapping doors. Nice mod. I would take a look during a gear swing to make sure everything looks good. Due to the overlapping function, the adjustment might be slightly changed from the stock gear door setting. Hope Victor gave you some pennies for your sticker! Lol. -Matt 1 Quote
Kmac Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 Gear door looks open very wide, however, your cowl flaps sure button up nice. Quote

RobertGary1 Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Also wiggle the doors to ensure there is not slop in the linkage. Very common in older Mooneys. I ended up changing all the rod end bearings on mine gear doors. -Robert 1 Quote
RobertGary1 Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Nice video. I"m always nervous at annual when I have to get under the plane while the gear is retracted. Probably from so many years working on cars where you would never, ever get under a car that was supported by a jack. -Robert Quote

I don't get in line with where it could fall. I won't even go under the hanger door or let others when raising or lowering. For extended stays not on the mains, I have a set of saw horses with moving pads that go under the wings. Quote

The Mooney electric gear is somewhat famous for being the fastest electric retraction system for certified planes. At the time Mooney said they wanted it to be fast because pilots were used to the speed of the J bar. -Robert Edited April 13, 2018 by RobertGary1 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Just remember that the early Mooney's nose gear had a totally different door mechanism then the current models. Quote
