I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest.  Nor do I wish to name names.  However, having looked through the forum here, there is a certain broker in Florida that enjoys, shall we say, a less than stellar reputation.  Far less than stellar.  Probably the exact opposite, in fact...

The thing is that I've been shopping planes for over a year now and he's got a bird that ticks all the right boxes.  For those who know who I'm talking about, could I deal w/this guy safely if I brought in an independant Mooney expert, or is the fact that he is representing the plane at all a reason to walk away?

Does his name rhyme with Tarron Bhomas and does the aircraft have a 2750hr airframe?

Nevermind, your guy is in FLA... More crooks per capita in that state then anywhere I've been...and I've been to 47 of the lower 48 and HI...

Regarless of who you buy from you should involve "in an independant Mooney expert" (read: an experienced Mooney mechanic) who has YOUR best interests at heart. Educate yourself on his "tricks of the trade" and go play hardball with him. The airplane is only worth what someone will pay for it, not what any particular broker is asking. If you find out it's a solid airplane and you can get it at a reasonable price (in today's market) then go for it. Don't let your emotions overrule your common sense. There are plenty of nice airplanes out there if this one doesn't work out.

It doesn't cost you anything until you put money down. If you are concerned, (reputation, past practice) arrange your negotiations in a way that protects you. Don't accept any promises and have all the work done somewhere else.

Just remember player don't get serious until they have some skin in the game.

If I was from Florida I might say "takes one to know one"...but I'm not so I won't.  Did you know that everyone in Iowa raises hogs and grows corn....

Tongue outYou don't have to explain to me Ross.  I knew, or felt I knew you had your tongue in cheek.  Stereotypes come from somewhere, right?Wink  My wife avoids WalMart like the plague...I enjoy it as I love to people watch and the entertainment is first class in C.R.

That intial post is older than dirt....It was flat-lining until you yelled "Clear"...

If this is the west coast Florida broker, be careful....he is law suit happy and has been a proud litigant more than a few times. He has even bragged about his legal dealings publicly. There are 4000 Mooneys out there, he has 5 or 6. Run as fast as you can.

I lived in Florida from 1990 to 2003...I agree w/the sentiments aired here.  Not that there aren't plenty of decent people there, but there are alot of conartists and scammers.

That info about the broker's litigious nature seals it for me.  I don't need to get sued just because I'm trying to look out for my own interest in a major dollar purchase.  I'll keep shopping.  Moving on....

Tell ya what... just make it simple for yourself and hoof on over to AAA in San Antonio and find one from Jimmy and David's inventory. No TX sales tax for you.

They were very up front with me, and I got a great bird at a good price.

And no B.S.

You can hire someone to help bring it back home for you or one of Jimmy's staff can deliver it to you.

Jimmy and All American didn't sell me my current '75F, but they did show me several aircraft.  I won't have any problem going back to see if they have a faster aircraft for me.  In fact, I was considering doing that very thing this Friday.

If an Alabama resident buys a plane from an indivudal in any state then then they do not have to pay sales tax.  If they buy a plane from a dealer in any state then you have to pay sales tax on it.
