Not sure what this valve is for

You look to have an unusual heater duct set up.  Are you sure this doesn't control a butterfly valve associated with that duct set up?  You other C model owners have pilot side heater duct that looks like this?  Looks like the round duct in the background is going up to the windshield defroster outlets.

I was thinking defroster vents as well.

If you switch to ALT STATIC while airborne the airplane will quickly tell you.

Process of elimination....

1) Modern mooneys got an alt static valve.  60s Mooneys got the break the vsi training... 

2) Alternate vacuum source is always an update for anyone flying IFR. The precise flight system was an imperfect alt vac source.

3) Other valves air supplies... Alt. Air for the engine.  Used with carb heat if you have a carb.... 

Or it could be a fetzer valve because its all ball bearings nowadays...
