mooneygirl Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 I just passed my IFR written. I used a combination of Aviation Seminars and ASA. If anyone would like feedback, send me a PM. Now on to the fun part.... or at least more fun.... the flying. #MooneyZoom Happy Mooney Girl 22 Quote

gsxrpilot Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Well done Jolie! This rating is pretty much a must have for a Mooney pilot. These planes were made to go far, fast, and very stable. 1 Quote
kortopates Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Fantastic! I wish you the best Jolie in keeping the momentum up to get through the IFR practical soonest! 1 Quote

I have the flight training scheduled in a bit over a month. Will be in my airplane. My CFII is in LA which is a great place to learn. I have 13 hours from him, but it was six years ago. Quote
thinwing Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Hopefully access to a simulator...good luck..for me it was the toughest rating! 1 Quote

Sean S Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Well done! As I get more hours in my Mooney (14 so far) I will get the instrument as well in the spring. It would be great to have it before the caravan next year! 1 Quote
clh Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Congrats on the written. Now, get after the flying part. The 24 month clock is ticking...... 1 Quote
Hank Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Congratulations, Jolie! There's no way I could have passed that test without having some instrument flying experience under my belt, and a dozen hours from several years ago wouldn't have cut it . . . I earned my PPL while getting my MS in the evening, but waited until I was done with that to start Instrument work. It makes the plane much more useful, but it sap sometimes difficult to stay current. Keep up the good work, you have the hard part behind you! 1 Quote
carusoam Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Way to get started, Jolie! Get ready to practice your multi-tasking skills. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
Pictreed Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Yay. Congratulations. Once you get that rating you feel more like you're part of the system when you fly. You scored really well...very nice. Tim 1 Quote

mooneygirl Posted March 3, 2017 Author Report Posted March 3, 2017 Great shirt for my IFR training weekend. #ShePersisted Getting that rating in 2017. But first an AB FAB flight down the coast to LA. #MooneyZoom 4 Quote
Browncbr1 Posted March 3, 2017 Report Posted March 3, 2017 congratulations on the written.. one thing remember during your check ride that many people forget.... If things are not going how you want them, you can tell the examiner that you would like a "discontinuance"... this does not fail you and just basically allows you to reschedule and fly the balance of the check ride that you had not completed. From my understanding, if you say that first, then you can't be failed unless it's seriously bad situation before having claimed the option. During my check ride, all hell broke loose in the airspace when they were training ATC and 6 jets were trying to get in at the same time on the same runway. I was cleared and taken off the same approach 3 or 4 times, and in middle of the chaos, my brain was thinking the step down MDA of the LOC approach, not the VOR approach MDA that I was actually flying. It meant that I was holding at 200' higher than actual MDA... I didn't have the cognition to ask ATC to send me around for a nice clean stable uninterrupted approach or discontinue... It was an expensive mistake because I had to pay for another check ride and missed my insurance renewal date with the lower premium that comes with the IR. luckily, the second check ride went perfectly.. 1 Quote

I'm thinking of using them to prep for the Commercial written. 1 Quote
