FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) My apologies in advance for posting in this section if it happens to be the “wrong” area. I previously owned a 201 J and then a 231 K. I had to sell the K three years ago when I moved overseas. I’ll be heading back to the United States in about 6 months and I am interested in having a Mooney waiting for me when I get there. Hence the search starts now. I’ve been watching controller and trade a plane but nothing on either site really strikes my fancy for one reason or another. As such, I was hoping to give this forum a shot. I would appreciate any (non-advertised) leads if anyone knows of any either now or in the future. Thanks! I am looking for the following type of Ovation... · O3 310 HP STC upgraded · Non G-1000 equipped · 1000 lbs UL (or as close as I could get) · No air-conditioning (eats up to much UL) · No damage history · MSC maintained · Complete log books · Original paint · Priced realistically (subjective I know) Edited October 23, 2016 by 231-FLYER Quote
carusoam Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 Early Os and Eagles are starting to go through the first round of upgrades... 310hp is a popular choice at OH. Less popular if not needed. Eagles appreciate the larger bump in power. 1k+ UL is mostly the norm. FIKI and AC are not that common as they weigh so much and need some maintenance. For some easy comparisons... AAA link... http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/list/?pcid=17527&dlr=1 Welcome home and good luck with your search. I really like my O1. Just for the same reasons you outlined... Best regards, -a- Quote
FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC Posted October 24, 2016 Author Report Posted October 24, 2016 The thing keeping me away from the Eagle is the autopilot. Not really in love with the S-Tec 30 which you find in most. Quote
Flymu2 Posted October 24, 2016 Report Posted October 24, 2016 I have a nice Eagle for sale. I agree with you about the autopilot, but I find mine adequate. The problem is that the selection of autopilots available for retrofit is limited and expensive. That said, if the DFC 90 was available for my plane I'd put it in tomorrow. I had a Century 2000 in a Baron I owned previously which I liked, and would be better probably with an Aspen or a G500, but the numbers for that retrofit are astronomical. I would not go for an STEC 55X. I've flown that autopilot in a Cherokee and it was lousy. Regarding the 310 hp upgrade, I've thought about it since I've owned the plane. The problem again is cost vs increase in utility. I'd like to have the takeoff performance, but there would be a small hit in cruise performance because of the 3 blade prop. The biggest problem is that there seems to be no source for the prop called for in the STC other than new, to the tune of about 13K. That plus the STC plus installation puts the upgrade at north of 20K. The way it is now I climb to 10K in 12-15 minutes depending on temperature and cruise 170 KTAS on about 12 gph at typical altitudes. For the few times a year where the takeoff performance would make a substantial difference I'll keep the 20K. YMMV. Quote
Tony Armour Posted October 28, 2016 Report Posted October 28, 2016 This one is near me. Not sure if advertised elsewhere. It does have A/C https://chattanooga.craigslist.org/for/5747960664.html Quote
LANCECASPER Posted October 28, 2016 Report Posted October 28, 2016 This could turn out to be a good deal for someone: http://www.commonwealthaircraft.com/featured/2000-mooney-m20r-ovation.html Quote
FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC Posted October 29, 2016 Author Report Posted October 29, 2016 Lance - I bet that one from commonwealth has a UL in the low 800's or even into the 7's. Still a good price none the less. Quote

How much is the real world cost for the engine overhaul and all the trimmings( i.e. Removal, install, accessories, etc.) I would definitely factor that into the equation. Quote
