I have found a rather disconcerting bug in WingX Pro.

When I have an approach plate up that was not selected from the main "View 1" or "View 2"  "Charts" menu choice, the iPad goes to sleep if I don't touch the screen for 1-2 minutes. This seemed to happen only when the iPad is connected to the SkyRadar ADS-B recveiver but I just tried it sitting on my desk and it did it here at home while not connected to the SkyRadar receiver. Can anyone else confirm this bug?

I emailed Hilton Softwre on 5/7 about this bug and didn't get a response until I emailed them again on 5/12. They said they would look into it but said you are supposed to select approach plate from the "View 1" or "View 2" menus not tapping an airport and selecting an approach plate from the pop-up menu. If you do it "their way" the iPad does not go to sleep.

I was on the VOR-A into Santa Monica today and looked for the next step-down and POOF, the whole freaking thing was blank. So, FYI - If anyone is using WingX Pro - beware!! You MUST select "Charts" from the "View 1" or "View 2" menu.

Dave,

I just tried it on my unit and did it did not happen.  I have an iPad2 is that what you have?  I will keep playing around with it and if I get the bug I will let everyone know.

Today when flying it said my 30 day trial of WingX was up. I will not be renewing for any longer period; just didn't think it is worth it.

I'll stick with the SkyRadar and SkyCharts Pro apps.

Jim,

I tried to email the navworx folks about this time last year.  I was trying to verify if their system worked with the Ipad.

When I view their site, they have compatability with many standard aviation MFDs and GPSs, but the Ipad does not seem to make the list.  Unless I am mistaken.....

All,

Hilton Software just released a software update (v5.2) for WingX Pro.

They fixed the bug I mentioned previosly and added some additional functionality. They continue to improve on a very useful tool in the cockpit.

If you haven't checked it out I suggest taking a look. It also supports the SkyRadar ADS-B receiver.

The attached photo is of SkyRadar's ADS-B projected to my iPad, photo with my iPhone. I didn't let all the weather load before taking the picture (white rectangles). What's amazing is not that I can get weather while on the ground at KAVQ, but that I can get in while in the hangar, with the ADS-B antenna stuck on the middle window of the Baron, while well inside the hangar. You can also see the weather information well into Mexico.

Jim,

Interesting find.

Anyone,

Could we install an AHRS into an existing Pitot / static system?  It would have no real effect on the system except for the possibility of introducing an air leak.

Christmas List:  Ipad(V3),  Sky Radar (waas, weather, traffic),   Synthetic Vision (is that the right runway in front of me?),   AHRS (airspeed data),    Geo-Ref approach plates (Am I really in the right place?), and one extra pair of Mark 1 Eyeballs (to keep one set outside the cockpit).

I just purchased wing x 7 pro.  When I have the sky radar box on I get the link for ADS-B on the bottom of the wing  app.

Shortly thereafter Nexrad images come up.  What I can't figure out is how to pull up a METAR or TAF.

Also, I had thought the sky radar had a build in WAAS reciever.  If it does Wing pro doesnt seem to be using it

Any ideas?

To configure your iPhone/iPad and WingX Pro7 to read ADS-B data, do the following:

  • Connect to the ADS-B WiFi network

    • Ensure the ADS-B receiver is on.
    • Tap on Settings on the main page of your device (not in WingX Pro7).
    • Tap on WiFi.
    • Ensure WiFi is On and select the network "skyradar0001" (or other appropriate network).

  • Configure WingX Pro7 to read ADS-B data

    • In WingX Pro7, tap on Tools on the main menu.
    • Tap on WiFi Setup under the ADS-B and AHRS heading.
    • Select ADS-B On.

TLSD,

When not in waas mode vertical and horizontal accuracy are measured in feet.  16’ and 32’ are typical good accuracies.  When in WAAS mode there is a different indication.  I believe a single number.

Check the YouTube presentations provided by Hilton.  They reference this detail so you know exactly which source you are using.

I just checked the set-up procedure it does not appear to be a separate choice.

Unfortunately, I have not yet purchased the sky radar yet.  It seems that the TAFs may be available under weather text?  (not in moving maps)

So many new choices AHRS Vs. sky radar vs. SV... iPad and/or iPad 2????

Best regards,
