Blackhawk Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Okay, what does it do? Can't really find anything in the POH. You can guess the kind of garbage I get when I google it. Quote
Skywarrior Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Inertial Reference System Quote: "IRS is a set of 3 IRUs (inertial reference units) that use accelerometers, l@ser gyros, etc, to determine the a/c´s position. They crosscheck their results against signals received from VORs and DMEs. They compare the info they come up with against each other, and if one of them shows conflicting info, the other 2 units kick it out. When no ground radio station signals are received for more than 12 mins (I think) the IRS will announce "IRS NAV ONLY" alerting the crew that´s the only source of navigation. After, say, an 8 hour flight over the ocean, when it first picks up a VOR nav accuracy upgrades, but most of the time you don´t notice the plane modifying its course in response to the upgrade, it´s real accurate." thinwing Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 do you mean the irc button on the pilots yoke??.If so that is the internal recorder clearance ..push once for last atc transmission..kpc Quote
carusoam Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The government has now supplied a button in which you can tax yourself for each mile you fly or on demand. Who needs fuel tax, new registrations, or photo IDs? You have your very own IRS button installed. Not-so-sincerely, -a- Quote

FlyDave Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 In California we have an IRS button in our airplanes. It is used when the tax man comes around (in Los Angeles the agency is called the "Board of Equalization" - how offensive is that?). The IRS button hides any new avionics and upgrades, temporarilly tears the upholstery and dulls the paint so our planes don't get assessed at a higher value and we don't get "equialized" out of more taxes. Once the assessment is done, we push the IRS button again and the plane returns to it's previous state . NOT! (but I wish it were so!!) Quote
Jeff_S Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Are you kidding me? They actually call it the "Board of Equalization"? That's just a whole other country. Quote
docket Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Plays back the last info transmitted. Quote
