  1. Except for long taxi's the Conroe new FBO is awesome. The cafe has outstanding food. I will try and join the group there.
  2. It was a lot of fun. Glad I went. Sorry it was in an Aerostar instead of a Mooney.
  3. I bought an Aerostar which weighs 4800 lbs dry. This tow moves it in and out pretty well until it gets fat with fuel. The manufacturer gave me a different gear set which I tried and that made it work fine provided you were not in a rush.
  4. I would sell it for $1750.
  5. I am selling the best airplane tow unit that I have ever had. I sold my Mooney and used this for moving it around in the hangar. It moves a Mooney as fast as you can walk and would pull the plane up a ramp into my hangar and over the door tracks without slowing down. This was a high dollar unit that I paid $5260 for about three years ago. It is in basically as new condition. It won't unfortunately work with my new plane. I will only sell it to someone that will come to my hangar at KHOU and pick it up because it would take too many stamps to mail it. Seriously, it is heavy and shipping would be a royal PITA. If you have a car trailer, or a small uhaul trailer you could move it easy. If you need any info just call me at 713 253 5382
  6. I am doing a three day course this weekend. I owned a Baron before I bought the Mooney so I have a little leg up in terms of training. I am using Advanced Flight Training because they will come to your hangar and school you right there. Its just a case of add money and stir.
  7. Thanks for all the Kudos. The plane will be fun but when you look at all the thirty year old systems in this plane I am certain that it is not going to be as simple as owning the Mooney. Going through the receipts on the plane the panel upgrade, the winglets, an annual and a new windshield was $280K in 2011. The $100 hamburger flight is now a $225 flight. With that said speed is addicting and flying at 250kts true with a 75kt tailwind and seeing consistent 325kts over the ground is addicting. Hopefully I will still be welcome around my fellow Mooney drivers. For those of you that saw the AOPA cover last month with the Jet here is the Jet from outside the window of my plane -- it was the photo plane since it was at Aerostar getting some final adjustments.
  8. It is a 700P which was the last version of the plane from Piper. They made 25 of these. The winglets are an STC item from Aerostar.
  9. I picked the Aerostar because Don Maxwell hates them and I always do the opposite of what Don says )
  10. To All of My Friends: After eight wonderful years of ownership N56FM and I parted company. The sale was difficult because I had a lot of interest in the plane. I guess if you have a good plane the market is still strong. I had enough interest that I was actually able to select who I wanted to buy the plane from three eligible bidders all of whom showed up within 10 days of my listing the plane for sale. A really nice guy from California bought the plane last Friday and we closed. He is a very accomplished pilot with considerable Mooney experience. As some of you know he suffered the embarrassment that we all worry about on his return home with the new plane when he landed gear up. I only found out about it when the FAA called me and I started getting private messages from some of my friends on the forum. I appreciate everyone's concern and I will relay everyone's thoughts to the buyer but I want to keep his identity private since it really is his business. I will continue lurking around the site. Here is a picture of the new bird.
  11. I am ready for a Type S. Bring it on.
