Nobody's practiced slipping turns for losing altitude? :P

Nope. I'm rarely high enough on base that I can't turn final, go to Full Flaps and Idle Throttle and get down in time. If not, I'll slip on final in a nice, straight line. Full flap slips are fine in my short body.

Eh, an unloaded wing steep turn loses more altitude than a slipping turn anyway! -_-

I wouldn't know . . . "No steep turns in the pattern" was an early instruction that still holds true.

But a 45° bank makes a great Emergency Descent.
