I think I need a vacuum pump for my J. Anybody know which one I need to order or is there a rebuild kit? Is this going to be expensive?

What do you have on it now?

A guesstimate would be $400-900 assuming you get the same type and return the core.

That's the one I just replaced on my IO360 A3B6D. Purchase a vacuum pump wrench or I'll let you borrow mine as long as you send it back. :P

$100 core charge

I swapped out to a Tempest vacuum pump two years ago and have been happy with it. The Rapco it replaced worked just as well, but it had 500+ hours on it and I was buying plugs for my annual at SNF, so the pump was a no-brainer add-on.

Probably has the original unit.

Thanks for the offer on the wrench. I'll probably buy one. It's nice to have tools in the box.

Best thing you can do is to read the P/N of the vacuum pump you currently have. Then get the same or the replacement. I believe the 214CC has been replaced now by the 215CC

I replaced mine with an overhauled unit when I purchased the plane over 6 years ago. Had over 700 hours and was still working. Replaced as a preventive measure with another overhauled pump. Hopefully this one will be as good. I've discovered (at least for me) it's easier to pull the dual mag with the vacuum pump removed so I plan on replacing the pump at the 500 service interval for the mag.

I've got one we just removed for my panel upgrade 215CC. Didn't see where you are, but $100 shipped if you want it. I have no idea what a fair price is..just tossing a number out there. If I'm out of line make a reasonable offer?  or buy a new one and know what you are getting. I was going to toss it in classifieds. He pulled this 215CC and my stand-by vac system. I'll have no vacuum gauges.

Thanks for that offer ,Tom. Mine was a 211 cc and the guys had a rebuilt in stock for $250 plus an hour labor charge. I already had the top, cowling off. That deal sounded pretty fair so I told them to put it on. I actually wanted to do it myself as I feel better about flying what I fix.

That's a good deal! You don't have to deal with the frustration or mess with sending the core back in for a refund. Hopefully you got to watch them exchange the pumps.

The 211CC has been replaced by the 215CC, which incorporates a wear indicator. My MX advises that he has had better service from them bought new as opposed to overhauled.  Mine have been good for 500 to 700 hours each.  They are currently $344 new from Spruce.  Definitely buy the special wrench.  Also good steel (not stainless steel) hardware, a good magnetic pickup tool, and a pair of hemostatic forceps are really helpful for the installation.  The job probably takes me a couple of hours to accomplish.

Wow, and I thought it would have been a simple bolt off/on job, it looks pretty accessible, shows what I know.

Speaking of vacuum pumps does anyone have a part number and source for central vaccum filter in 201? Spruce doesn't have it apparently. Thanks.

I just replaced mine with a Rapco.  I believe the newer ones are supposed to have a 1300 hr warranty.  Don't know if that's realistic or not.
