orionflt Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Looks like some one did some remodeling on one of New gardens hangers, reports say only minor injuries. Do you have any info on this Chris? http://6abc.com/travel/2-hurt-after-plane-hits-hangar-in-chester-county/1366203/ Brian Quote

Marauder Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 I have not been able to find out who was involved, but I saw what appears to be a part of the plane in front of the hangar. If it is, I am pretty sure I know who owns the plane. What is not clear is how they ended up where they did. The hangar they ran into is on the north side of the runway. Assuming they were using 6, they would have needed to turn hard north to impact the building where they did. If they were departing or landing runway 24, I could only guess what they were doing. bradp Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Amazingly looks like the high wing's wing is intact. Quote
Guest Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 If it was able to penetrate the hangar wall, why is there no wings or other parts of the fuselage on the ramp? Clarence Quote
DXB Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Looks like quite a bit of cleaning up of wing pieces must have been done outside the hangar before the photo, given the narrow profile of the hole in the hangar? Some lucky folks there- glad they're ok. Quote
Marauder Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 Saw the plane. Lucky. Both wings folded back, they went through the hangar wall between wall struts. Missed a car and another plane in the hangar. Instructor on board. Front passenger minor, instructor's safety belt tore loose and he suffered injuries going forward. I will post pictures. Marauder Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 Appears to be an impossible turn. Pilot transitioning to tail dragger unhurt. Instructor's seat belt failed. Facial cuts, bitten tongue, bent teeth and couple of gashes. Plane appeared to be in an 80° bank before impact, right wing caught the top of the hangar roof which caused the left wing to flip up and drive the fuselage cleanly through the hangar wall. No fuel spill, no plane inside the hangar they hit and they missed both 8"X8" structural posts on either side of where they entered the hangar. Lucky boys... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
MB65E Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 Thanks Chris! Hope the guys get better!! Hangar probably saved them. The ground wouldn't have allowed such deceleration. Everything but the hangar row looks like wide open spaces. Darn! -Matt 1 Quote
kris_adams Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 Glad everyone is basically ok. I'm sure this was frightening... 1 Quote
