It is not rotting away, they are actively restoring it. I think they are getting it flyable so it can be flown somewhere for a complete restoration. I just checked it out last week. They have run the engines. My friend keeps his T-33 in a hangar right next to it.

Besides, planes don't "ROT" in Arizona. The sun will ruin the paint and any exposed rubber, but the metal will last forever! That is why the airlines and the Air Force store their excess inventory here.

Nice to have friends like that!  I hope to be that friend in however many years it takes (Not necessarily at T-33, but same idea).  Very cool!

It is great having a T33 (actually a CT-133). It is cheaper to maintain then a Mooney. When the Canadians retired the last of them about 10 years ago, he drove a semi up there and they filled it up with parts. They were happy that someone was going to keep one flying.

The only problem with it is flying it! It burns about $1200.00 in fuel an hour!

It is easy to fly....

There was a Connie in Santa Fe that clamed to be the Columbine.. Don't know if it is still there but pretty sure it is not he same one that is being retrieved from AZ.. Is it possible they both served at different times?
