JaredDavis Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 Here is a reason to have 1090ES vs 978UAT. http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/Worldwide-Tracking-For-ADS-B-Equipped-Aircraft223541-1.html
tony Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 Gee, I was thinking it might be a reason not to have it. And this would be a good reason why?
Piloto Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 Looks like a good idea. But who is paying Iridium for it? Satellites are not cheap. José
JaredDavis Posted February 12, 2015 Author Report Posted February 12, 2015 David, What if the ELT does not work on impact? In 2017 they would be able to retrieve your last ads-b position. Should be close. I wonder if the 978UAT data is available for search and rescue now through the FAA. If you are in an area w/o ads-b ground station coverage then the 109es through Iridium may be better. Anyone see the L-3 offering today?
yvesg Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I would be worried about Nav Canada managing such thing. We have user fees in Canada for ATC by them. They will definitely at some point require something. Like José said, nothing is free. Yves 2

My concern now is whether the UAT version of ADS-B isn't going to do the same thing (reporting out my N number for the purpose of billing me).
wishboneash Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 Don't worry, they'll charge your credit card or send a bill to your house ... for your convenience! I especially like how my personal information is available to just anyone and everyone via our N number? Isn't government wonderful? Some people want even more of it! It's too bad that ham radio operators and airplane owners have their addresses published on the internet free and clear unless one registers (for aircraft anyway) under some other entity. They should do that for autos and see the hue and cry from the general public!
Danb Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 Dave another good reason to put your plane in an LLC and use a fictitious name..also getting rid of my home te no. Because only calls rec'd are from beggars, scammers and the like...its a shame when we can't keep our privacy, if my clients know I have a plane I'm charging them to much and they cry....
