Looks like more reasonable ADSB options are coming out.

Has anyone seen this none- TSO ADSB in and out unit?

This helps some of us wait a few years before paying for a certified version plus the intrusive installation....

I hope ForeFlight is working on an ADSB out unit too :)

Interesting, but I thought ADS-B out had to conform to the TSO, and at the end of this write up it says "non-TSO'd."

All I need the ADS-B out for is the traffic.  The mandate may change in the next few years so as long as I get the traffic in the next five years, I will be happy to drop a thousand bucks :)

The difference between an FAA approved and a non approved is on the design and production testing. Obviously an FAA approved product will undergo a more rigorous testing so you will have a more reliable product. But if you still wants the lower cost non approved option buy it from a company that does FAA approved products. The design engineers and manufacturing are likely to be the same for both products.

I doubt that non FAA approved ADS-B out products would be allowed to transmit on the aviation L band. It could cause serious interference to the ATC system. Beware that TSO compliant does not necesarly measn FAA Approve

For FAA TSO approved products checkhttp://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgTSO.nsf/MainFrame?OpenFrameSet

now look at this!

the lid is about to pop on ADS-B. The FAA just opened the door a crack, maybe it will get pushed all the way..........

Looks good.  I hope the "crack open door" allows the installation of these units on all GA aircrafts shortly and this does not become stuck in bureaucracy similar to the third class medical deal.

Very interesting.  So this PADSB device... could I set it on the glareshield in my Mooney and use it? Is it legal to use, like using SV on an iPad, for situational awareness?  Prior to the 2020 mandate, could it be used now?  Or is it illegal to even carry it along in my Mooney since it's not TSO'd and the Mooney is certificated?

I'll be interested to talk to these guys at Oshkosh this summer.

I have the same questions.  I hope to have someone clarify this for us.

I read that we can use it in our planes but it does not meet the 2020 mandate requirements at this time.

Does anybody know about the Navworx apparent change in ADSB models of their transciver? They did make a model ADS600-BG that had a TSO-C145c certified WAAS GPS. They now do not appear to offer that model just a model ADS600-B which the claim meets the 2020 mandate. It is significantly cheaper. Did the regulation requirements change this year?

I look at it this way... Buying the KT74 and replacing my old Mode C (which is bound to fail at some point) and thereby having a permanent ADS-B Out solution is worth more to me than keeping my old irritating "dial-a-digit" KT76. It's digital, has buttons for the squawk code, and it is one less gadget I need.

So... I bought the KT74 - and I'm now trying to find an avionics shop in Atlanta that's actually good.

To each their own though.

My 15 years old KT76C will be replaced by a KT-74 next week.  I have a Garmin 530 WAAS so this configuration is the least intrusive to install and reasonably inexpensive.
