KSMooniac Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Salvage price would be quite a bit higher, but they're dreaming with that asking price. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I bid really low (10k) on the M20L because it's a repo etc, and for grins. He emailed back and basically said they get at minimum 90% of asking price, usually more than asking price. I said "well good luck to you." No way that is market value on an airplane that 1) has likely been sitting and 2) without logs and 3) being that it is almost an orphan with that specific engine setup. That said - get that baby running and you have there THE fastest Mooney. I have read that it is a 265TAS at show-off speed and 240 in high speed cruise (that is show-off speed in the acclaim - not cruise speed). Quote
Geoff Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Beware low gross weights on the M20L. Some of them were re engined with the IO550 and transformed them effectively into 2 place airplanes. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Those conversions without the gross weight increase were done by Mooney Mart or some other Coy J entity. This one was done fully and correctly by Rocket Engineering so it won't have that issue. Still, it is not a 190 AMU plane... Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
aaronk25 Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Surprising the engine mfg wasn't able to make the liquid viable. Liquid cooling would eliminate almost all of our cylinder issues and cruise faster too. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 The APS crew shared a funny quote from some old Navy guy: "Liquid-cooling an airplane engine makes about as much sense as air-cooling a submarine!" I think most of our issues with our engines are due to lead in fuel, shoddy workmanship when installing valves, poor oil paths (Lycoming), and bad metallurgy from low-bidder outsourced vendors. 1 Quote
smccray Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 So odd night- can't sleep...started cyber stalking a bit. Googled the N-number and as usual flight aware popped up, as did a listing on trade a plane. Flight landed at Addison on Monday evening. Photo on TAP looks like Addison (my home airport). Not sure why I started looking at the satellite image on google maps- check out the hangars off of papa taxiway. This plane happens to have been outside when the satellite passed overhead. As crazy as this sounds, it actually looks like the satellite image on google maps was taken when the image on TAP was taken. I don't see anyone in the satellite image with a camera, but the airplane looks to be in about the same position in the satellite photo as in the TAP photo. See the angle of the plane relative to the taxiway markings. Satellite image was taken on 10/18/2013. I need to go to bed. 1 Quote
