MARZ Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 For all those who have been searching for a W&B app - it is now part of the foreflight offering, along with a gps track that will playback in google earth. When you set it up it asks for your N number - finds out what plane it is (along with the serial) and imports all the stations and limits applicable. The only thing you have to do is input your current EW and COG (EW*COG inches) Pretty cool - now I can delete the other app I used for W&B on my IPad. I haven't used the track logs yet but plan on it. Quote
Greg_D Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 W&B only works with the pro version though. And I haven't been able to import any of the planes I fly....Mooney or otherwise. Quote
Houman Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I was not able to import, but input of data took only couple of minutes and I was able to reproduce the CG envelope and use it. The only missing part is that if you actually build a route that has the fuel calculation, it doesn't automatically take that info in W&B, maybe something they can add on in later releases. Great work Foreflight !!! Quote
N601RX Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I entered my N number and it found all my info. Quote
Bennett Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 It took two tries, but the program found my N number, and it works very well. I still prefer WnB Pro with its slider bars for the variable load factors, but this is a good backup. I will have to try the GPS tracking and Google. Quote
mulro767 Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 How about the recording feature on the left side of map display? Anybody use that? What does it do? Quote
MARZ Posted August 15, 2014 Author Report Posted August 15, 2014 That records the GPS track you flew Quote
midlifeflyer Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 That records the GPS track you flew Here's an example: http://api.foreflight.com/directory/tracklog/view.html?id=1912525 The nice thing is that there's an ability to export to Cloud Ahoy. In addition to not needing two possible conflicting apps open, it's especially nice for Stratus users because Status does not talk directly to Cloud Ahoy. Quote
Wakeup Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 I am curious to find out how fast my battery will go down while using GPS tract on my IPad. Looks fun if I can figure it out. Troy Quote
carusoam Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 GPS uses a fair amount of power. But, the iPad handles it pretty well... Lower screen intensity is a good idea. The iPhone is not so well equipped. GPS will drain the battery before the flight ends. Either way, a plug should be kept on hand. Only because they are available and make sense. Using an external Wifi WAAS ADSB source is a possible method of lowering battery use? Best regards, -a- Quote

Troy If you're asking how much additional power is being used by tracking in addition to using moving map capability, probably not that much. All that should be happening from an app standpoint is logging information that's already there in a simple text file. That's pretty minor in relation to all the other functions taking place live. tony Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 anyone upgrade to IOS 8? did foreflight survive? Quote
midlifeflyer Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Yes. Foreflight is alive and well in iOS 8. Did a 5.2 hour IFR flight last week including an approach. All without a hitch. Quote
