201er Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Arrived non-stop to Winnipeg, follow all week for more. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N4361H http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0qx3v8UKt3rtQecIVYYZyf39kIpQSWBMk Quote
FlyDave Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Holy Cow! This time he flew so far LOP that Flight Aware did't even register GS for part of the flight. Mike - How many pee-bags does a flight that long take (age dependent, of course!)? Quote
201er Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 Speaking of speed, coming into Winnipeg, ATC had to run me past the runway centerline and back for spacing and then ask me to slow down twice for traffic ahead of me. I replied, "roger, will slow down for the Baron!" Just 1 bag for me. My dad none but he also avoided drinking much all flight. Walked, didn't run to bathroom. Quote
Marauder Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Mike -- nice job! I followed your flight today after you sent me the email this morning. The route you took was perfect. Having flown for years in WNY, the convective build up usually happens leeward of the the lakes. The route you took was north of where I have seen it build. Did you see any weather? Hank Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Holy Cow! This time he flew so far LOP that Flight Aware did't even register GS for part of the flight. Wow, he flew the J at C speeds! Plus ~60% on the range, but still, C speed! Quote
yvesg Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Hey Mike, if ever on your way back you stop near the Capital (Ottawa), let me know... I'd like to introduce you some of the family birds. Yves Quote
carusoam Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Yves, Family birds like Canadian Mooneys or Canadian Parrots? I sense a round trip to include the length CA before heading back East somewhere around GA... Best regards, -a- Quote

rbridges Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 wow. I wish I could fly as much as you do. Quote
201er Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 Wow, he flew the J at C speeds! Plus ~60% on the range, but still, C speed! Those kind of headwinds would make a C pilot cry, a skyhawk just about stay in place! It wasn't just headwinds but also a lot of sinking air so I'd be finding myself losing 10-20 knots indicated just to maintain altitude. Went through THREE different weather systems on this one. Never done more than two before. Went from high pressure through cold frontal line into low pressure and then into another high pressure on the back side. I can attest to spinning my altimeter from 29.80 to 29.50 and then back up the other way. Interesting weather for sure. Flights coming up every day so follow along. If we get out of radar range, I've got the spot going. Enjoy. Quote
Seth Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Mike- What a great trip! Do you have supplemental oxygen? It'll be great to get a tailwind heading home up high. -Seth Quote
yvesg Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 How far is he getting this way? He is on his way to meet the NWT Ice pilots? Yves Quote

201er Posted July 11, 2014 Author Report Posted July 11, 2014 Some tough weather flying today. Who knows what FU means!? Quote
Marauder Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 I remember that one Mike. Flew west over an area impacted by SMOKE. They having fires up there? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
201er Posted July 11, 2014 Author Report Posted July 11, 2014 Had to shoot a precision approach with less than 2 mile visibility because of smoke. No clouds. Pretty strange. Sun looked red and set early into the sky above horizon. Never had such a low visibility approach that didnt involve clouds. Once had to do an approach in 4 mile visibility in Phoenix cause of a dust storm. Quote

Would have been a totally different story if I was headed eastbound. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
bnicolette Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Be careful up there Mike. Are you going to keep tracking north? The good news is the further north you go the more your pants are going to fit in with the locals. Quote
