aaronk25 Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 If cruising high for best mileage and speed about 20rop gets the best bang for the buck. At fl150 in my 77 J (25 degrees timing) it trues at 150kts at 2700rpm on about 7.5gph. At lower altitudes such as 11k I'll run peak. Slightly Rop up high brings back the lost airspeed.....but obviously don't run that setting down low. Quote
cujet Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 I like to go as fast as practical in nearly any airplane I'm flying. My reason to fly is to go fast and not necessarily to sightsee. However, there are times were flying economically can get you there, avoiding a fuel stop. This is the only situation where I'd consider LOP or reduced power operations. I regularly fly from S. FL to Central TN. ROP operations on this trip may result in an Alabama fuel stop. Quote
Marauder Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Haha guess I am too quick to say that the verdict is out! Wonderful to see such passionate discussion! I am running 22" and 2500rpm. LOP 50-100 and my CHT Is steady just covering the right side of "F" sign. I don't have a Fuel flow meter. Also I am yet to compare the speed of 100 ROP. But I am definitely not running 50 ROP as advocated by http://www.mooneypilots.com/mapalog/cruisepower.html The CHT is a lot higher! Are doing this with only the CHT/EGT factory gauges?
