Hi All,

Have been using Avemco due to good past experiences ( lowest rates on an Aztec and pay out on an off airport landing in another Mooney).  However for 3,000TT, 1800 multi, 2600 retract instrument and 60 AMU hull Avemco wants 1.6 AMU.  Travers wants 1 AMU for more coverage.  Any experience with Travers or others?

rob: for $1100 bucks what coverage do you get?

Full in motion etc or just basic?

i pay twice that for full in motion etc coverage.

I've gotten quotes from Avemco three years in a row to compare with the quotes I get from AOPA Insurance.  Each year, the quote from Avemco is at least 1 AMU higher.  This year (from AOPA) was about $1300 for $66k hull value, $1M/100k liability, full in motion, with ~300 total time and ~220 in make/model.

I have a 66E, go through AOPA, $1M/$100K liability, $50K hull, underwritten through 'chubb' and this year's premium was $1060USD.

I had about 200 time in type as of the last renewal.

Hi Ned: Yes i am aware that i am comparing US to Canadian, i am just amazed at the difference.

I wll need to see who you are with when i arrive there. I am still planning for June 24 or 25th.

Weather looks a little spotty but should be OK.

Russ:

Just sent you an e-mail.  I was still working with the original plan for your arrival nearer the 28th or 29th.  Ute and I are wheels up around 9:30 am on the 25th to Sudbury to drop her off - then for a noon departure out of Sudbury to Summerside PEI for the COPA AGM with my instrument rated friend.  My plan was to be back in Ottawa on the 27th and be ready to receive you the next day or the day after that.

I really hope that we can still get together in Ottawa.  If not, are you planning on going all the way to Summerside on the 25th? Do I smell another Mooney Ambassador event?

Ned: that works too or i may just go to PEI and join you guys there and stop at your home base on the way back.

I am working on an event for fredericton actually!

Hope the weather is better there than it was for the St. Paul event.

On the insurance issue I am currently paying $1580 for 1 million liability on my 67E. I do have an instrument rating but it is not current as of 2006. I have approx 1350 hours on type and no accidents. I am up for renewal as we speak and will let you know what my new rates are.

Jim: What in flight structural failures?

i am not aware of any. There was the tail issue back in the old days but i can not find any records of any in flight wing failures.

I am paying in the $1200 range per year from AOPIA on my 1965E.  I did insure it for more a few years back when the new glass, interior and panel were installed.  I have found the companies will compete for your business.

Jim: I agree with the special care etc.

i have mine completley inspected every year, new sealer applied to the spars etc and i had the wings totally rebuilt in 2008.

I am very lucky that i have a AME that is a specialist in wood wing and fabric aircraft and he is younger than me so he should be around for a few years yet...
