Well, not quite.... but a very glossy Chinese language GA magazine has been produced, and to celebrate the Chinese acquisition of Mooney they decided to feature a Mooney on the front cover.

They could have chosen the latest Acclaim or Ovation, but that would have been boring. So instead they chose a very nice picture of me flying my 1966 M20E over the coast of Maine.

Perhaps they will be restarting production of the E? :)

How did they get your picture??

I think they bought the picture from a UK magazine that featured my aircraft on its cover last year.

I wish I'd known in advance. I would have paid to run an ad saying "Beat the queues! Own the first Mooney in China! No premium over factory list prices!!"

I am in Shanghai as I read this, on my way to Honolulu and I was hoping to tell someone here that I am a Mooney Driver and show them pictures of my aircraft (also an E model), but it never came up.

I was thinking that they might invite me to talk about it and demonstrate the operation of the Johnson bar and then ........

..... OK, maybe not.

But there can't be any harm in thinking about it, can there?

It certainly shows they have class and good taste.

Well maybe. My first thought is that they stole the picture from the original publisher and used it for their cover shot, not having a clue that it's a ~45 year old airplane instead of a brand new $700k airplane (nothing against the plane, it looks nice and mine's coming up on 50 years old too).

To those of you who have been to China or know something more about the country: is there any private media there, or is it all run and supervised by the state?

They may not have had a clue what it is (though I like to think that they just selected the very best Mooney!) but there was no theft involved. They asked the British publisher for Mooney pictures and articles, and paid before use.

Hhmmmm......general aviation exists in China? Didn't know that. However, a very nice picture of a beautiful aircraft being expertly flown.

It's growing, both China and Brazil, big countries that do not have our transportation infrastructure need ga aviation. My flight school brings students in from both countries.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Great pic.

A pic like that speaks volumes. Classic airplane, flying "freely" over the coast. Freedom itself!

It looks like I'm flying "freely", but in fact I have rarely worked so hard trying to stay in close formation with the camera ship as we turned so the photographer could get just the right shot! I love the result, though - well worth the effort.

how did you run across it?  I'm not currently subscribed to any Chinese flying magazines.   :D

They sent a copy to the UK publisher (who also took the picture). He's a friend, and passed it on to me. Much as I like this issue, I don't think I'll be subscribing!
