Fuel Pressure Transducer 1985 M20J

Searching for a fuel pressure transducer Part# 880045-501 for a friend in South America who said that LASAR quoted him $1800.  Are there any other sources/replacement/alternatives for this part? For example would  it be possible to install a JPI Slim-line fuel pressure gauge which will t off the fuel line?

I'd like to know the same thing. My '84 J has had a flaky fuel pressure transponder since I bought it, and my shop tells me the part is un-available. They recommended I upgrade my JPI to one that has fuel pressure. I'm not sure if it's that same part number or not.

This is good advice. Shadin often has deals, too. Great time to switch to EI or JPI.

I understood from the technician at JPI that all you have to do is make a T connection at the fuel line to install the JPI transducer that will connect to the JPI slim-line gauge.  Other set ups may also be possible depending what is in place now by way of fuel flow metering system.

Back in the 90's with my 1985 201 I replaced the factory sensor with an E.I. 2.25 inch gauge with both oil pressure and temp with RED WARNING lights...cost about $800 vs $1600 for the factory sensor at that time.
Still working fine.  Great solution.

Hello Everyone,

      Let me introduce myself then....I'm Mark.  Thank you to everyone on  MooneySpace that has taken the time to post.  It's now my turn.  Here is how I fixed my fuel pressure transducer in my 1984 M20J.  My plane originally used the expensive Rochester fuel pressure system which included the transducer and the fuel gage.  Replace the fuel pressure gage and the transducer with parts from a 1979 model M20J.  The fuel pressure gage fits perfect.  The new setup will only use 2 of the 3 wires that are currently being used. Since the parts where originally designed for the M20J model...it's completely legal, so I've been told.

 

Fuel Gage from 1979 Mooney M20J   Mooney Part No: 640281-131  when I got mine it was $236 

Fuel Pressure transducer 1979 M20J Mooney Part No: 880007-501  this part is really a Mitchell fuel transducer MIT PS-211-9000 $35 from Chief.

 

My fuel pressure would always drop when I was over the mountains.  I have been told that all the Rochester fuel transducers of this type will eventually fail because of a manufacturing defect.  This fix can also be used on the oil pressure system as it to uses Rochester senders and gages.  I don't have those part numbers though.  You should be able to fix this pesky problem for less then $500.

I just bought an EI FP-5L Fuel Gauge with an auxiliary Fuel Pressure channel.  It is a primary gauge.  The gauge cost me $600 after the rebate and I am anticipating about $800 for installation labor and parts.  I'm just wondering if this would work for you and give you something new and better instead replacing the other with a more expensive and older part?

I have a 68 m20g and the quantity gages are pretty weak. Any good fixes out there ?? My dad had the drain port break off one time in flight----fuel flow gauges will not help if this happens.

Over torquing a fuel drain is too easy on the ground.  But, in flight?

How did that happen?

Check with Airparts of Lockhaven, they do a bunch of stuff with older gauges.

We replaced the fuel pressure gauge in our '81 J. I'm pretty sure I have the transducer. I can check tomorrow.

Im looking for opinions as to replacing the fuel pressure sending unit that sends info to the factory fuel pressure gauge.  The front of the gauge where it mounts to a fuel line wobbles a bit but no leaks and seems to read accurately.  Is the wobble a concern or should I just keep on trucking? My concern was that it's mounted on the end of about 15" of fuel line coming out of the servo.  Thank you for any and all input.
