To the average person, it might seem a bit morbid that pilots pay so much attention to aircraft accidents. After all, when was the last time you saw an article about an accident in a car magazine? But flying isn't like driving, and accidents deserve attention: They let us learn from others' mistakes, help us think critically about our skills, and provide a mental "nudge" if we find ourselves in similar situations.

With that in mind, the Air Safety Institute's new seminar, Accident Case Study: Live, aims to put a new spin on safety-oriented accident analysis. Working with several compelling real-life cases, presenter and audience will play the role of accident investigator–starting at the crash scene and working backwards through physical evidence, eyewitness testimony, and other leads to figure out exactly what went wrong, and why.

I attended the session last night with flyboy and about 200 other pilots. It was SUPERB.

Informative, entertaining, timely, no boring film clips, and inspirational regarding safety, flying smart, managing risk and encouraging people to get involved with GA. It was never preachy or egotistical. First class presenter who was so down to earth I don't recall him ever mentioning his name. How refreshing!

If this is typical of the new AOPA road show campaign, it was a good decision. AOPA was very low key, there was nothing for sale, some door prizes and a free pen that lights up at the press of a button.

If it comes to your area I urge you to attend. Oh, for you cynical old CB's who've quit AOPA, no need to be a member to attend.

Well done AOPA!!!

Well done AOPA!!!

But as the President of the CB Organization I object! They should give away more! I would need to spend money on gas to get there ;)

Oh, BTW -- AOPA just sent me a "Hail Mary" attempt to regain my membership (1 year since expiration)? Can they really give me a free new Mooney to go with the AOPA flight bag they gave me last time? :)
