Do you know if the STC restricts you from having one of these? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It’s a pain to get to. It’s mounted on my 75F on the back of a panel that is part of a removable portion of the firewall. The engines side has the voltage regulator, RF filter and other stuff attached to it. If you have the SWTA 201 conversion, you have a small access panel that at least you can see the SoS. We had a severe thunderstorm pass through our area and knocked out power. A couple of RV owners flew in after the storm had passed and couldn’t get into their hangar. They tried to rig up a generator at the switch to power the door. I had to show them the label on the door motor it was a 240V motor and their 120V generator wasn’t the best solution. One of the hangars I had over the years had a manual crank to move the door in case the electric failed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Is there an avionics guy on here who can tell me why?
Marauder replied to Oldguy's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Another pet peeve of mine was the number of inline fuse holders that were under the panel. Most of these were removed in favor of panel mounted circuit breakers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
Do your cowl flaps have a speed restriction? Mine do. 150 MPH (75F). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

GFC 500:: coming to your Mooney
Marauder replied to LunkenPilot's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I’m pretty disappointed with STEC. They really botched the handling of the 3100 upgrade path for the Mooney population. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
I wonder how all this plays with the new European GDPR laws. California also just introduced their version of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Is there an avionics guy on here who can tell me why?
Marauder replied to Oldguy's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
It’s laziness. I asked my shop to remove stuff like this. There may be some extra wires for shops that do a little forward thinking. And run a series of wires for future use. Like the white wire bundle by the left rudder in the picture above. What I can’t stand is crap like this. How hard was it to bundle it up? When Bruce Jaegar did my interior, I took the time to properly route and safety any wire bundles running through the sidewalls. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
Alternator, Regulator, Inter Av, Plane Power
Marauder replied to 211º's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I went down a similar path that you did. I made a cross country flight and saw my voltage drop from 13.8 to 13.0 and periodically to 12.9. At my destination, the shop thought it was the alternator and I had them replace the alternator with a Plane Power. The check out showed the voltage at 13.8 to 13.9. On the flight home my voltage started dropping again. Went through all of the wiring and followed the troubleshooting guides for both Zeftronics and Plane Power. Everything pointed to the regulator. Replaced the regulator with a Zeftronics and the voltage has been a rock solid 14.1 since. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
I'm a two screener. I used the MFD on a regular basis. Weather, traffic, TFRs, StormScope are all displayed on the MFD and it is extremely useful. As for the third screen, it is only a EFD 500 version. It does not have an AHRS or can be used in reversion mode. If you are using the Aspen charts, I think it makes sense to have one. Otherwise, having it on the iPad make more sense. But, for those single screen people, GET THE SECOND ASPEN! I think you will find how useful it is.

Oxygen refill - Tank size and filler adaptor help
Marauder replied to jrwilson's topic in General Mooney Talk
You will get one complete fill with the large tank and each subsequent fill will be less than the max cylinder pressure. I.E. 2200 the first time, 2000 on fill 2, 1700 on 3, etc. How many partial fills you will get depends on how large the O2 cylinder you are filling. The trans fill adapter you are showing looks like it will attach to CGA 540 on both sides. Again, depends on what kind of cylinder you are filling. Mine are 540s but the other guys who are in the tank farm with me have a much smaller filling port and one guy has a medical tank. Show us what you are filling. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -

I was on my way out to work today and noticed a Mooney flying overhead. They had their landing gear down. I looked up the plane on FlightAware. Curious why they were flying this way. Please solve the mystery. Ferry flight? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The installation should have some cost if you add the audio wire for the altitude call outs. As well, I suspect there is some time spent updating the logs. Not sure about the shipping costs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Most of the MSCs have some level of stock for the Mooney specific parts. As well, many of these parts are cross overs from other manufacturers. Like the Cleveland wheels, Heim joints, engine components, etc. There are also a number of aftermarket manufacturers for plastics and windows. What you are left with are the parts that you either need to produce yourself, find it from a Reaper or have it rebuilt. There really isn’t a lot left other than those components that you truly need a factory produced part. And those needs are usually tied to something significant. Like taxiing your wing into a pole. Even then, the Reapers can find stuff for you. Here is an example of an owner produced part. A visor. Also had a new mixture control knob machined. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Don’t take this the wrong way. But as a long time owner (28 years and counting), I don’t get the fear about the Mooney situation. In those 28 years, I’ve been through numerous Mooney ownerships/bankruptcies and during that time frame have yet to experience the inability to get a part. Yeah, sometimes it may require an owner produced part and other times, the services of one of the Reapers. But in the end, a solution was available. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

O&N bladder drain valve leaking

I am not sure it is worth the trouble. I just replaced mine. BTW - I don’t recall that part number. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
Ben said the turnaround times have been all over the place. Seen some turned in 5 days and others took 8 weeks. The guys who paid for the exchange are waiting as well. A guy on my field who opted for the exchange has been waiting since the start of the program. I suspect there are staffing issues and probably some poor planning based on the number of people who are doing the upgrades. I did see something over at Ben’s. A rare Peter Garmin plane spotting. Heard he is getting an Aspen 2500 installed. [emoji1787] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Unfortunately a lot of prospective owners don’t take these fixed costs into consideration when buying. It is a large portion of the ownership cost that hits you whether you’re flying or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
