I've read the comments in the accident report about the PVC fuel switch adapter most of us supposedly "overweight" guys carry on-board. The issue isn't being overweight, if you are a tall person, you need to slide the seat back to reach forward to get to the selector switch. The design of the fuel selector switch being in the pilot's foot well is just a poor design. Obviously Mooney addressed this issue later with the fuel selector being moved to the center position under the power controls. Has anyone ever attempted to relocate the fuel selector to this position? As for the accident report finding the PVC adapter broken. I wouldn't be surprised that in a panic, it got broken trying to use it. I saw John Breda's effort to work a solution. It is an area of concern that obviously was a contributing factor to this accident. Just curious if anyone has attempted to address it. -

The rear panels are a bit complicated in our 75 Fs. You need to pull the window treatments, those covers that hide the channel above the rear seats, the recliner levers and I think one more attachment point in the baggage area. According to the Garmin website, you can purchase the Flightstream 510 and do database updates that way. It is an expensive add-on since the other features are already built into the 375 (flight plan transfer, ADS-B, etc.). I have the 510 for my GTN and I really like it. Makes it seamless to update the database once it links up to my iPad or iPhone. I bought the SD adapter for the iPad but could not get it to recognize the card for database transfers. It depends. How many hours and what is the age of the engine? If you sell it with a mid time engine with a crack, you’ll be selling it as a plane that needs engine work. If the engine is no where near TBO, I’d look at having the crack repaired. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I have the Reiff Turbo pre-heater. I think it is rated to draw 700W and I have used the Sportsman a number of times to run the pre-heater while the plane sits on the ramp in the tundra. At more open airports, I run one of those bike locks through the handle and attach it to the Lasar tail hook. Yeah, it’s a $150 generator but why risk losing my membership in the Cheap Bast$#d Club? It is a manual start, so you won’t be able to start it remotely. If I am at a remote airport, I either will try to get one of the line guys to start it for me or come early to the airport, start it up and have a 2 hour breakfast. I suspect their quality control leaves something to be desired. I seem to recall one or two had issues with them out of the box. For the rest of us, they worked fine. I’ve used mine for a couple of seasons and it keeps on working fine. For $149 and I think 27 pounds, it was the cheapest and lightest inverter generator I could fine. I too have a Yahama for other use. The Sportsman certainly isn’t a Honda or Yahama but at $149 compared to the 1000W equivalent Yahama priced at $863, it’s a deal. One thing I have been real careful about is the fuel. Any ethanol fuels will cause those cheap carbs issues. I have been running mine on AvGas. Thanks for pointing out they are Kelly harnesses. I have a new set of Kelly harnesses on my plane. Do you know if there are any issues with the larger (3/4”) plugs? I think standard are 5/8” but I upgraded mine to 3/4” when I went with the fine wires. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -

On my F, the SOS is mounted on a plate that is attached to the firewall. It is in one of the most difficult locations under our panels to reach (behind the avionics stack and up high). My mechanic and I had to loosen the plate to get to the nuts on the voltage regulator. There was not much play in the wires and of course over the years, they had mounted other stuff on the panel. Ouch! I think the best approach is to confront him with the issues and see if he will make good on the corrections. Cancelling a payment could end up in court or worse, a lien against you. It might help if you took pictures of what they should look like. Ironically my seats were done in a similar color of leather. I'll find and post some pictures.

Looking at the G3000 and the required airframe changes, it's plausible but highly unlikely. Even on the Cirrus Jet, it isn't currently a retrofit for the G1 series. I think for it to be part of an offering for a piston plane, it would probably be required to be certified that way. I think of all manufacturers to watch, Cirrus makes the most sense. If they begin introducing it on their SR series, then we will know it is possible. I think the price point will become a sticky point for most GA owners.

If you are talking about the piston fleet, then I think it comes down to how much are they willing to spend on certification to modify their piston fleet to have the auto throttles, mixture controls, flaps, etc. to make it work. In addition, you also need the G3000 in the plane to drive it. That package I don't even think is offered in the piston fleet. And from what I read, is not offer on the G1 series, only G2. So, trade in your 2 year old G1 for that new G2. The same for the Piper turboprop.

Ha! That taxiing to the ramp comment brings back memories. I was flying home on a day VFR flight from southern NY to my airport outside of Rochester. As I was getting closer, I noticed a cloud layer heading towards my airport. When I got to the downwind leg, I realized that this cloud layer was actually a fog bank and it was just reaching the departure end of the runway I was landing on. I landed in sunny skies and rolled into the fog bank. I had the foresight to turn on the runway lights but it made no difference. I couldn't even see the runway lights from the centerline. I shut down the plane and called the FBO to ask to have someone help me hand tow the plane off of the runway.

Nope, it is primarily designed to engage the autopilot and I believe do a descent to a pre-select altitude (10k seems to ring a bell). I will see if I can find more details but I am fairly certain auto throttles are not part of the deal.

Not much to add but to re-emphasize what others have said. As a long time owner, my advice centers around whether this is the right plane for you and your family for your current and future flying needs. When I bought my Mooney in 1991, it was just my wife and baby daughter. When my son came along in 1997, the plane still fit our mission. When my kids got bigger, useful load had become a concern. Rather than selling my F, I decided to weather the storm and would rent a Piper or 182 that had the useful load I needed. That served the need of the holiday trips to grandpa & grandma's house and the occasional vacation trip. With the exception of an STEC 60-2 autopilot being added, any avionics added were to replace what got too expensive to continue to fix. Fast forward to 2012, one kid out of the house working and the other finishing up college. The "family" trips were now relegated to day trips to the beach with the son. It was then I decided that with 21 years of ownership, the plane would fit 99% of my forthcoming retirement flying. That is when I began the heavy investments in avionics. So... my advice really centers around where this or any other plane you are considering fits into your life style. If you think you would be moving onto something to bigger or faster, you may be sinking a lot of money into a plane that you won't get back out. Choose wisely... -
Took a couple of more photos. The double sided tape is a 3M product. Nothing identifiable but I know they sell a Extreme Mounting double sided but it only comes in 1” width. The stuff Bruce used is 1/2” in width.
