And you are going to love the new yokes. I had the Mongo style yokes found on the 1975 models. Really great for hanging on in turbulence but were horrible for adding all of the switches for the new avionics out there.

Aspen Pro EDF 1000 Altitude/VS Preselect
Marauder replied to V1VRV2's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
You will need the G5 /275 to support the GFC 500 and you will get altitude pre-select, IAS climbs and digital VS climbs as well as GPSS & the heading bug control. With the G5/275 in the panel, it will become your primary AP controller (along with the GFC 500 control panel) and the Aspen will be relegated to a basic glass display where the heading bug doesn't control the AP nor would you be able to use the GPSS (that would come from the G5/275). All that said, I am not sure where Aspen is with integrating the GFC 500 like they did with the STEC 3100. I think you would still need the AHRS from the G5 and if this is the case, then the Aspen becomes non-essential. Which I think is Garmin's strategy anyways. -
TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Marauder replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I can't speak to the installed price, but I'm sure someone will have this information. The GFC 500 is a lot more than what you want but Garmin isn't taking the add-on approach that you see with the Century and STEC models. That said, a basic STEC 20 which is a single axis autopilot (no pitch control) is listed on Genesys's website with a $8000 MSRP. The starting price for the GFC 500 (two axis) is $7000 MSRP. Why would you go with a basic analog autopilot with old style servos while for less money, you get a full blown AP with digital servos? When I heard TT was purchased by BK, I cringed. Their issues with delivering products on time extend well beyond just the FAA certification process. A few years ago they tried to introduce their KSN 770 GPS unit, they were struggling to get the project completed. They ended up going to Aspen Avionics to have them build the GUI for the unit. I think their ability to produce a product on time is well noted. Remember the running joke about the KI-300? They said it would be introduced "next quarter". They left out which year. -
TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Marauder replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
You sound surprised! I am not surprised that Garmin is pounding away at the AML for all of the manufacturers. They are great at doing that. Quite honestly, I am in the same position with my STEC 60-2 autopilot. Although my STEC works great, I want altitude pre-select and constant IAS climbs. Genesys is asleep at the switch as well. Their proposed upgrade to their digital solution is to re-use the existing servos with the upgrade cost being more expensive than the MSRP for the GFC 500. And to boot, they want firm PO commitments before they will engage in the certification process. -

To help facilitate the conversation... N6758N stopped over at my airport and looked over my yoke installation. My yokes were upgraded in 1998 using the factory upgrade kit. My yokes came with the blueprint drawings that Skates97 is showing in his post. I believe I understand what is going on. The blueprints are showing the yokes installed in my plane. I believe those were the current yokes and shafts available in 1998. When I saw N6758N’s yokes, I believe this were yokes from the early J models. I took this picture of a friend’s yoke collar and it looks like the one posted above. His plane is a 1979 J. The same yoke mount in my plane: What I am wondering is if either the correct shafts from the blueprints can be purchased and will they fit this vintage of yoke or if there is another adapter configuration that works to allow this style yoke shaft to attach to pre-J models. The other option (if it is still available) is to purchase the $6k kit from Mooney.

can I move my transponder to the center stack?
Marauder replied to rbridges's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Have you considered removing the AI? If the Aspens are Max units and the MFD has the extended battery, you can lose the AI. Also, you may want to consider upgrading the StormScope to a WX-500. The WX-500 output will overlay on all of your Aspens and there won't be a need for a separate display. I find the StormScope output being on the Aspens really helps when you see your magenta line going straight through a line of T-Storms. -

And for you guys who had me email you the blueprints for all of the specifications needed to install them, this beats the 6AMU factory kit price (if they even sell them anymore). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Stick on reading lenses - a sad PIREP.
Marauder replied to Ross Taylor's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I’ve tried the OPTX on my Sergenti’s. I got them to stick okay but found they weren’t optically clear. And even with the 1.25X power, I found the top edge of the bifocal very noticeable and irritating. Not that I’m a cheap bast$&d but I found the cheap bifocal available at www.boomersintheknow.com work fine and are CHEAP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
My F has this restriction and I will always end up in that range on leg after the FAF on an approach. I fly approaches at 100 KIAS, even if I slow down to 90 KIAS, I’m still at the bottom end of that arc. I think the word “continuous” means not to set cruise power. Trying to fill portable O2 losing my mind
Marauder replied to The Other Red Baron's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
You’re welcome. Just look closely at the adapters. You’ll want a CGA 540 if you’re filling a standard portable aviation bottle. Other adapters may be required if you’re using it to fill an onboard tank or if you picked up a portable medical bottle (that will require the CGA 870 adapter). Plane Power Alternator Acting up
Marauder replied to Rspencer612's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I got burned when a mechanic suggested my issue was an alternator problem. Replaced it with a Plane Power only to find out that the voltage regulator was the issue. The Plane Power website has a troubleshooting tree. I’d start there. https://planepower.aero/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Troubleshooting-Single-Engine-Externally-Regulated-Alternators.pdf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -

I purchased the Aerox transfill adapter for one tank. https://www.aerox.com/product-p/fa540-72-g.htm After I purchased it, another MooneySpacer turned me onto eBay’s selection of transfill adapters. I used them to add on the remaining two tanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
Copyright infringement - I'm scared.
Marauder replied to Ross Taylor's topic in Bug Reports & Suggestions
A lot of the photos on the web have copyrights on them but in many cases they are in small print and hardly visible. The ones who take it seriously are the ones who will watermark their photos on the web. If you look through the photos you posted, you might find the one they are referring to. I have a friend who’s wife is responsible for tracking and paying royalties to musical artists. It is amazing how much money flows this way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
GTN visual approach with KFC 150
Marauder replied to Costa Leite's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Dan - with these visual approaches, do they consider the 3 nm waypoint the FAF for GS intercept? Or does it even matter where the GS is intercepted as long as you are at or below the correct altitude? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
Nah, they were too busy making sure their masks weren’t leaking around the edges. We don’t know how lucky we are to be able to fly the country without the stress of knowing not what our fellow passengers are carrying with them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Bob & I spent way more on our vintage Mooneys than we should have. The only person who I think has gone further is John Breda who essentially turned his F into a J. Bob was dedicated to not only maintaining his E but to bring it to modern standards. I would be surprised anything shows up on the pre buy. I spoke to Lynn yesterday and learned you were moving forward. If you get buyer’s remorse, please let us know. [emoji6] The reason for my call to Lynn was that I have a buyer, cash in hand, ready to swoop in. As for the plane, there is always something that you can add or change. I would fly her a bit and see what changes you want to make in order to make it yours. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Bob epitomized what we all should be striving to be. A caring human being, strong in his faith and a genuinely good person. Not long after I joined MooneySpace, I got to know Bob through some PMs. I invited him to stop for lunch on one of his trips up to the Minuteman Airport from North Carolina. He was the first MooneySpacer I met. Even before Stinky Pants, the Grim Reaper and the rest of you crazy Mooniacs. He gets out of his plane, greets me warmly and hands me a bottle of his home made wine as a “hello” gift. Who the heck does that? Heck, when Stinky Pants first visited, he wanted to know when the burgers were going to be done! I’ll miss his demeanor and his calming ways. We didn’t just lose a fellow Mooniac, we lost part of ourselves... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Trying to fill portable O2 losing my mind
Marauder replied to The Other Red Baron's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I have a 3 tank system in my hangar. There are 5 of us in the "O2 Pool" (1 Bravo owner, 1 J owners, 2 F owners and a pilot who we think likes to suck down O2). We elected to do rent versus buy cylinders and get stuck with the rental & "hazmat" fees for having the cylinders. The O2 by itself is really cheap. So, if you can get a couple of people interested, it is not a big deal to have them refill the big cylinders so you can refill your smaller ones. I think why these gas companies are getting more tight on their controls is because it is clear these small tanks are not likely to be used for welding. There is a liability to dispatching O2 for medicinal usage and I am sure that plays into it. I also wonder if the COVID situation isn't playing into this somehow. Oh wait! More fake news! -

Time to build your own... I would always answer the “is it for medical use?” with a no answer. The last time before I built my transfill system, they tore off all of the Aerox labels and put their labels on. I suspect to make it look like a baby welding bottle. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
