Hey, let us not forget about those adventuresome Mooniacs who believed they could get 5 in a C model. Contrary to public opinion, size does matter. Nice to see the baggage compartment person made it out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Hey! I resemble that remark! You seem to forget that your JetProp’s co-pilot was modified to accommodate a Lilliputian and I happen to be Gulliver. Besides, once that TBM guy told you about entering the cockpit backwards, it all worked out - except for the alternating breathing routine we had to do. I’m done with trying to get Genesys to look at the Mooney series. I sent a couple of emails to Jamie Luster to say how there was a large population of STEC products installed in Mooneys and it should be considered for certification. She never had the basic decency to even acknowledge my emails. https://genesys-aerosystems.com/management-team/jamie-luster Maybe if we camped out in front of her house she would listen. Central PA Mooneys? buying advice.

I routinely fly with with a 6’4” 220 pounder. And I’m 6’4” and 250. You’ll fit but I like flying with my wife more... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
As others have said, the 900 and 930 are basically interchangeable. I found that I wanted it closer to me and that made the 900 more appealing. As for the primary versus non-primary discussion, I would definitely not go the route of an 830, even if you kept your original Mooney primary gauges. I’m one of the idiots who did and found myself wanting to upgrade to the 900 not long afterwards. The largest concern people have is the display. And I for one have had my fair share of JPI 900 issues, including a couple of display issues. I never lost the display completely, what did happen was there were lines missing in the display. After a warranty replacement, it failed again within a year. JPI did step up and replaced the display a third time but they are using a completely different display which is harder to read in sunlight. It’s a glare issue. If you elect to remove your factory primary gauges, you can use other primary gauges like the EI series. In my case, with the 900, I wanted to have backup primary gauges for RPM, MP and fuel pressure. I had those EI gauges installed to augment the JPI in the rare cause the entire JPI display goes dark. You lose any of those original “primary” gauges, you’re grounded even with an EDM 800. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

And that’s how we like it. We should put up signs on I-95 that read “Just keep on moving, no stopping”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Well Rich, those pictures were a test for Clarence since he seems to notice EVERYTHING when a person posts a picture. The pictures were taken a couple years apart. The TFR around N87 was taken in 2017. Interestingly, every year I flew over for my annual, N87 was surrounded by a TFR. The labels were moved from above to below last year. You can see a piece of the label in the second photo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

We used to joke when his VP TFR went up, it made it easier to find his house. Sometimes you have to wonder who comes up with these things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I’m not too worried about it. Even if he is elected, I don’t think he will hang out much here. He didn’t when he was VP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Well, Dan based on the responses, if he is elected Prez, I’ll have 3 options; 1) Hope Greenville Delaware is too boring and he will hang out at Camp David (don’t think he is a golfer) instead. 2) Move to KMQS and hang out with you. 3) If I really need to get out before the TFR goes up, fly the plane out early. When he was VP, he didn’t spend a lot of time in Delaware. BTW - the day I took the picture, I saw your plane coming out of KMQS. Too busy landing to ping you on your CTAF. I was out flying last night and saw a couple of TFRs were present in my area. One is the 1nm 1000’ TFR for Biden’s house and the other was a temporary one that came up for his remote speech from Wilmington. Got me wondering what life would be like if Biden is elected President. My airport falls within 10 nm of his house and KILG is 13 nm from my airport. Anyone based at an airport within the 10 nm ring of where Trump goes? Are GA airports pretty much shut down or can you use the FRZ decoder ring to fly out of airports within the 10 nm ring? I haven’t had to look at the regs since the MSC I had been using was always excluded from the outer ring. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Extending the service life of the Garmin GNS430W / GPS400W
Marauder replied to Bob E's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I think the best approach anyone can take with avionics is the one that works for them. I am asked often about why I went with the GTN 650 over the 750. For me, the GTN is a data entry device that has become even less so with the addition of the FlightStream 510. I load and make changes of flight plans on Garmin Pilot and upload them to the GTN. What I use the GTN for is loading approaches, calculating descents and for a backup display for the traffic and StormScope outputs. Even that backup display is a triple redundancy with the L-3 9000 and Aspens in the panel. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
Ah come on! You and I both know he is hand flying his new baby either because 1) he is getting the feel for her or 2) he hasn't figured out how to turn the AP & GPSS on.

That's good to know. My Lasar oil cooler relocation kit is still sitting in the box.

I do think you can use a private call sign or flight ID unless you have the ability to use the designation. Really unusual for GA pilot to go through that trouble. If they block it, this is what you see on FlightAware: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I had these guys work on my 12D+. I believe when Narco went belly up, they bought out a large portion of the service inventory. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

There was a lot of corporate jet activity at KMQS and I suspect that is what keeps them going (and those transients paying the highest gas prices in the area). [emoji6] You’re right, the airport is county owned and federally funded. The FBO was run by the county and a particular county executive was the reason Signature moved in. I would be curious to see where their FAA airport activity stats are now. Rmag’s avionics/paint shop is on one side of the tarmac and you have Signature on the other. I’d be fine if they had a section of the ramp designated “no man’s land” that would allow me to park and not use Signature. BTW - the restroom are in the county building shared by the now gone restaurant and the FBO. KMQS is a ghost town. In contrast, my airport is township owned. Run by an energetic airport manager who was responsible for securing federal funds to redo the entire runway complete with new lights, brand new T and box hangars, start up a maintenance shop that is booked solid and manages to keep fuel & hangar costs more than competitive in the area. Taken last week: In addition he brings in additional revenue through an annual air show, hot air balloon festival and aviation summer camps (of course COVID has changed all this for the summer). GA can survive at small airports if the ownership is willing to partake in an approach to foster GA. Not nickel and dime them to death. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

You should have flown 10 miles south to my airport (N57) and enjoyed $4/gallon fuel, no fees and use of the courtesy car. [emoji6] When Chester County awarded Signature the FBO at KMQS, it has been all downhill for the airport. Initially when they opened, they charged landing fees even if you went to the restaurant. Word got out and people began avoiding the airport. They dropped the landing fee but the damage was done. The airport restaurant closed and certainly with the current COVID situation and Signature still there, I doubt it will be opening anytime soon. I have a friend based there and he said that there are available hangars there. The only airport in the area that I know has open hangars. That speaks volumes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

I think my MooneySpace is broken.

I can’t tell from your post if you’re happy with with the current performance you’re seeing today. Adding a PowerFlow or SureFly may add a few knots but will that be enough to warrant the investment. Especially if adding the PowerFlow will result in higher fuel consumption. If your focus is the distance flying, then a full capability autopilot makes sense for those 400 to 500 nm trips and those longer leg flights you mentioned, especially if you are flying a lot of approaches in IMC. I know you want to keep the vintage look of the plane. I have a fair amount of time in a couple of 67 Fs with the original window. My 75F with the 201 windshield is significantly quieter and I think contributes to my plane being a 150+ KTAS F model. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
