  1. I have the lower cowl mod. I think it helps with cylinder cooling, but for me, in the wrong direction. My plane always ran cool and with the cowl mod, it runs even cooler. I doubt there was any real speed increase that you could measure. As for your oil temp, my F will run in the 170s (winter) to high 190s (summer). Is your temperature always in the 200 range regardless of time of year?
  2. Maybe the aviation portion is, but I question the rest is... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  3. My airport is built on top of a ledge of bedrock with a lot of boulders and loose rock. Between the shifting of the rocks/boulders due to winter heaving or large trucks being allowed to drive on the ramps, you get this: When I saw this while taxiing, I parked my plane and radioed a Piper behind me to avoid it. His response was that “I could have driven over it. It wasn’t that deep” Yeah right, with those wheel pants on... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  4. Amen brother. There have been a number of companies that have succumb to the arrogance that they can survive with minimal security measures in place. And then there are companies with excellent security in place but fall victim to the poor front line worker who opens a link in an email and creates the havoc. My company constantly sends our employees internally generate fake malware of different flavors as an ongoing effort to educate employees to the risk. We have a link on our Outlook toolbar called "Report Phishing". It is designed solely for employees to report suspect email. I wonder if they ever figured out that I send all my boss's emails there?
  5. Just wait until Peter Garmin catches wind of this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  6. For those of you using their fitness app and hardware, I am experiencing issues with connectivity between their hardware and the Connect app. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  7. As someone who after 30 years has tamed the IO-360 beast in my F model, Rags is spot on about the hot start. I am pretty anal about making sure that I am idling at 1,000 RPMs when I pull the mixture for shutdown. No need to temp the hot start demons by shutting down at 800 or 1,200 RPMs. [emoji1787] Where people get into trouble is in that post 30 minute zone. Is it hot, is it really just super warm or just warm? Some are tempted to treat it as a cold start at this point. Not me! After casting out the evil demon spirits on the cold start, you ain’t catching me with a Ouija board asking if it is cold enough. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  8. Thanks for this! I scratched my favorite pair and was having issues finding a suitable replacement (I wear a large frame). Had what I needed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  9. Thanks for sharing this. I think their issues extend a bit further. I did some updates to my Garmin Pilot flight plans and I noticed they didn’t update on my other iOS version. Got an “unable to sync” message. Wonder how far the hack went. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  10. Good point on checking the parts catalog. And for reference, the drain pictures I provided above are the aftermarket drains for the O&N bladder system.
  11. I agree. Change out the fuel drain first. I saw a lot of fuel around mine and when I changed it out, it stopped the leak. The drains are not that expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  12. Bob - Tanis is an aftermarket engine heater. I am not familiar with the Tanis components (I have a Reiff system) but here is their website: https://www.tanisaircraft.com/product/piston-preheat/tsp4cyl-2925-115
  13. Bob - I have CiES in my 75 F and yes, they go in upside down. Does your 75 E have 4 senders? This thread I created might help you:
  14. And for your interior work, you may want to look at Bruce Jaeger’s Spatial Designs to replace the lower panels and teach you the technique to repair the upper panels in case you can’t find replacements. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. Dude! Nice! You are missing one significant upgrade. Those 1975 Mongo yokes need to go!
  16. I was seeing voltage in the 13.5 to 13.6 VDC as well. When my voltage regulator began to fail, the voltage would start to oscillate between 13.1 and 13.8 until it eventually went offline. Please let us know the final outcome.
  17. Which MSC did you use? If the drive coupling isn't the issue, there can be an issue with the alternator or voltage regulator. Having someone who understands how the charging system works will help prevent throwing money at a problem. I had a voltage issue last year (with the same symptoms as your's) and a mechanic at my destination convinced me that my alternator was the issue. He said because it failed near the end of my 2 hour flight, heat was causing my alternator to fail then get better on the ground. It turned out to be the voltage regulator that was heating up and causing the issue. What kind of voltages are you seeing? My replacement Zeftronics has the voltage steady at 14.1 on the JPI.
  18. I know when my RPM unit came in, it was not configured for the RPM limitations of my plane and they reconfigured it for free (it was a new unit but I think my mechanic bought it without the limitations). I purchased the FP-5L back in the 1990s and when I purchased the MP/RPM units they came with LED backlighting. I inquired about converting to LED and they made the change and went through the unit for a very reasonable price. EI is a great company to work with. Just wish they made avionics...
  19. I loved my EI gauges so much that I left them when I installed a full blown engine monitor. Nice to have redundancy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  20. I would love to have a third screen to display the IFR charts. If I am flying an ILS and there is an GPS approach to the same airport, I set the MFD’s HSI to display it. Forces me to use the iPad for the chart. I think the G3X can overlay or dedicate the chart display as well. If you have the IFR charts, let us know how it works out on the 3rd screen. 21. Now you’re sounding like a lawyer or Anthony. [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  22. I hope they are right Paul. I am not confident that STEC will deliver nor I am willing at this point to consider the STEC 3100 as my next autopilot upgrade. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  23. You’d be amazed how frequently that happens when the TFRs pop up. I remember hearing 3 call outs on 121.5 to pilots violating the TFR on a 25 minute return trip I made back from Air Mods. When I was at Air Mods, they told me a Mooney owner who had finished washing his plane and flew directly into the TFR while drying it off. They said the pilot was so flustered by the experience of being intercepted that he almost lost control of the plane landing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
