After 29 years I still sump at the fuel selector before every flight. I have yet to find anything but being a dedicated checklister, I still sump them. OCD?

If the upgrades were still available at $4k, I would jump on it. $7,500 is a bit much. You do get a 2 year warranty with the Max, so at $4k, you are really only paying $3k for the upgrade. There are a few things I like about the Max over the originals. At night, the display is not washed out like it was on the original units. I think this is because the light sensor works better on the Max. Outside of the better resolution, there are some features that have been added to the Max. One being the METARS showing up on the MFD’s nav map. Makes it so much easier to get local weather conditions. They also now allow you to turn on the TIS-B traffic IDs - and let them stay on. On the originals, the IDs would only stay on screen for a minute or so. If you have Synthetic Vision, you’ll see a smoother display. It was never really that jerky to begin with, but it is definitely smoother. Dev mentioned the altitude call outs which nicer than the “dong dong dong”. I would wait and see if they run more promos. If you have an Aspen avionics shop that you work with, try to see if they can cut you a deal with Aspen. That’s how I ended up with the Aspen 2000. I’ve been flying with the Aspen 2000 since 2012. Never had an issue and the Max units which I had installed in November 2019 have been solid as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Guys who fly Bravos shouldn't be caught using iPhone 6s... Even us Executive drivers are on iPhone 7s.

I never got a definitive date range of the problem plugs. I sent them my serial numbers and they agreed to replace them. If you bought them in February, they still could be old new stock. I would call them up and report the issue. I do not think this is a systemic issue with fine wires. I believe it is a manufacturing defect. I posted on the site who I contacted. Let me see if I can find it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I’m one of the people who had a lost electrode on my Tempest fine wires. Tempest told me they had outsourced the welding of the center electrode and brought it back in house when they saw issues popping up. They replaced all 10 plugs I had (8 in the plane and 2 new spares). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

In 1998, I purchased the Mooney yoke upgrade kit for my F. The kit included all the mounting hardware needed for my F and a large set of blueprints. Back then the kit was a little under $2k. Someone got a quote from Mooney not too long ago. The kit was over $6k. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Another Mooney Spacer Gets a LANCAIR IVPT Ride
Marauder replied to Yooper Rocketman's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
We all know the answer to that question. If you need to ask you can’t afford it. [emoji1787][emoji6] What I was amazed to see flying in Jerry’s JetProp how much fuel becomes part of your flight planning considerations. When we left his home base, there was enough fuel to make it to Lakeland. Watching the 60 GPH consumption during the climb was almost as entertaining as watching it drop to 30 GPH at altitude. The winds at altitude initially indicated we would need to land short to refuel but crossing a wind shift boundary, we ended up landing with 1.5 hours of fuel left. And here I was am worried about whether my CiES senders will show I need 22.8 or 22.9 gallons at fill up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -

Folding bikes that fit through baggage door?
Marauder replied to AlexLev's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Yes. It has a storage bag that comes with it. If you don't have a storage bag, you will need find something to store it in. Like a large garbage bag or a barbecue cover. It will fold down into a very small package. Even the pedals fold. -

Tom, I think I will pass on a free ride... I was in Jerry's JetProp on that trip to Sun N Fun. I still trying to figure out how to fit a PT-6 in my F. I don't need any more encouragement!! -
Folding bikes that fit through baggage door?

I affectionately call my Allen foldables “clown bikes” as in “Hey hun, let’s not forget to pack the clown bikes”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
There was an AOPA article that was published a while back that mentioned that TFR procedures may be modified from the original intent of 91.141. Maybe this is what they meant. When I pull up an active Trump TFR, it clearly shows it requires an active IFR or filed VFR flight plan. This leads to more confusion as to whether it needs to be activated. Check the “During Flight” section. It says “activate”. I’m pretty sure means you need to activate it, not just have one on file. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

You need to have an active VFR flight plan prior to entering the 30 nm ring of the TFR. Found a NORAD guide: https://www.norad.mil/Portals/29/Documents/NORAD civil aviation kneeboard - US Airspace (Aug 17).pdf

When I had my 900 installed, I had them connect up the remote indicator light. It will turn yellow or red depending on condition. I get to feel like a jet guy when I can hit the clear button on the JPI when the yellow light comes on after landing because my oil pressure is at 59 PSI. And for a belts and suspenders kind of guy I am, I also have the EI AV-17 connected and I will get any of the call outs from the JPI. Like that lovely “Check voltage” when my regulator decided to departed the surly bonds of electrons. I like the landscape view of the 900. Just not sure where I will move it to when the next avionics upgrade comes this Fall. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
