  1. Thanks Robert. I'll be flying out on the 25th so we might see each other!
  2. Not sure that is true. Fuel injected engines provide a better distribution of fuel thus maximizing what atmosphere is available and in theory would be able to fly higher.
  3. Why replace the mags? If the engine is strong, I'd have the Mags IRAN'd for around $1200 and keep flying. Do virtually everything on condition.
  4. Thanks Clarence. His plane was fuel injected so that provide some edge.
  5. Is the fix just a matter of un-screwing the old rod ends and replacing them?
  6. How's that even possible?
  7. That's pretty much what I do... I have an old over stuffed chair, beer fridge and a humidor full of cigars. I just hang out, tinker with the plane and enjoy watching the world go by.
  8. I generally use the windsock as my abort point as it's almost always at the midpoint of the runway. So it makes it pretty easy to determine what's remaining.
  9. Thanks everyone for the recommendations. This was incredibly helpful!
  10. Everyone coming in for the wedding is staying at the Marriott Suites Midtown. I don't mind driving a little as long as it's not a long commute to the hotel. Just looking for a good FBO that can hangar my plane, reasonable fuel prices and a car rental on-field.
  11. I was actually considering KRYY based on AirNav comments. I will be there for maybe 3-4 nights. So driving would not be much of an issue.
  12. I have a wedding I'll be attending in Midtown Atlanta the end of August. Any suggestions on the best GA airport in that area? There's several airports in the area but not sure which one would be best. Right now, I'm leaning toward KPDK but would like to hear what others think.
  13. Mooney needs to understand what it's mission is and that is creating the most efficient fastest single engine traveling aircraft available. It's not creating trainers nor bringing back older vintage aircraft. They need to be single minded and focus on creating the next generation Mooney that improves on that mission. From my perspective, that means improving improving the traveling experience. The plane should also be a true 4 person aircraft (four 200lb passengers, full fuel and max baggage capacity). To improve on the traveling experience, that means a wider cabin, two doors and good leg room in the back seats. Ballistic Parachute should be a option for those who want it. You can offer turbocharged and pressurized as different models.
  14. Dan, your priorities are out of whack...
  15. I'm here now as well and the days are flying by... Leaving Saturday. This is #5 for me.
  16. I'd look at a 252. You say now you don't see yourself going east but you will. And when you do, that turbo will really be nice. If you still don't want to pony up for a turbo, based on what you said, I'd go for the E model over the J. I know there's a ton of 201 bigots on the forum but If you truly will be doing 90% of your flights solo, you don't need the additional space of the J. You get a plane almost as fast (some say faster) at a much lower price point leaving you tens of thousands of dollars in your pocket you can put into avionics and/or other upgrades.
  17. Seems like I remember Aviation Consumer did an evaluation of the headset and was underwhelmed with it.
  18. On mid 60's M20C's unless you have a very special modded version, you just have to accept the temps going over 400 df for a short period of time. The trick is to get your speed up to at least 120MPH ASAP. I generally at 1000' AGL, bring the power pack to 25 squared and limit my climb out to 500 FPM. Once reaching 120MPH, I slowly start bringing the power back up and monitor the CHTs and adjust accordingly. Kind of a pain in the butt but it is what it is...
  19. Can't wait to get there. I'm hanging out at KJEF waiting for the weather south of KOSH to move out through before completing the trip. Worlds slowest moving weather system!
  20. Welcome! Tell us about yourself. That's a drain for the static line. Mine has a second one right behind the trailing edge of the wing on the left side as well.
  21. Does this include the pancake breakfast? On the agenda it said it's only for Mooney Caravan Registrants.
  22. I polish mine... It's pretty easy with the new products on the market like California Custom. Even the Mother's product wasn't too bad and did a great job.
  23. I personally will never bring on a partner unless I can't afford it even if I only fly 25 hours per year. If you attempt to do a flying ROI find another hobby. I almost enjoy my non-flying time with the plane more than flying time. There's nothing more enjoyable than hanging out in the hangar and tinkering with your plane.
  24. +1 on Aero Comfort... They did a fantastic job with mine. Just send it down and they turn it around in no time. If I remember correctly it wasn't that expensive... At least relatively speaking.
  25. Back in my aerobatic days, I was preflighting a Decathlon and when I was checking elevator movement when I heard a bang and the elevator locked in the up position. Turns out that mechanic was working on the battery and left a wrench in the back where the battery is located. When the guy flying the plane ahead of me was up doing some hammerheads the wrench fell down and lodged in the tail section. Pretty sobering preflight inspection. Still gives me chills thinking what might of been.
