  1. #3 is where your MP line connect too. If that line has a leak or isn't connected securely you'll seen those symptoms.
  2. I guess my question is that if you go with TIS-B via GDL-88 or other similar products, will you loose your ability to see traffic that's not ADS-B out compliant?
  3. So if I'm currently getting TIS-A with my GNS430W/GTX330ES combo and I install a GDL88, I'll get bot TIS-A and B?
  4. Rick, Does your GDL88 display both TIS-A and TIS-B traffic? One thing holding me off from installing a GDL88 is I was under the impression I would loose my existing TIS traffic and only pick up ADS-B compliant traffic. If you can let me know if that's the case, I'd appreciate it.
  5. For me, the biggest issue I have with my C is not the back seat leg room, it's baggage space. I always find that if me and the wife go on a trip of any length, our luggage always spills over into the back seat. I can't image doing anything other than a quick day trip with more than two folks. And in those situations, we're only talking a couple of hours which isn't that bad.
  6. I use a Nexus 7 with Garmin Pilot for my inflight EFB and an iPad 2 with Garmin Pilot for flight planning. I personally would never rely on anything free like Avare for my EFB with my life on the line. I a neck to choke if I have issues.
  7. Congrats! That hangar is WAY to clean... Where's the over stuffed chair and beer frig?
  8. I had a similar issue and my mechanic just disconnected the tube from both ends and blew it out. That resolved my issue. Just make sure that you securely reconnect it. My A&P just figure tighten it back and when it came loose, I had one very unhappy engine!
  9. Byron hasn't posted on this thread for some time so I suspect this deal has fallen through.
  10. +1. I've used them twice and couldn't be happier with Aaron's work!
  11. I'll be interested in the root cause of the failure but this sounds like your engine suffered from an infant mortality failure due to a material or assembly issue. There's a reason why they say you're more likely to have an engine failure with a new engine (<500 hours) than a mid or high time engine. Just because you have a new engine you shouldn't think that you're safer... In reality, it's quite the opposite. Here's a couple of links to a good articles on Infant Mortality: http://blog.aopa.org/opinionleaders/tag/infant-mortality/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve
  12. I personally believe that the landing "maneuver" isn't complete until you taxi off the runway past the hold line and complete your post landing flow check (fuel pump, landing light, carb heat, flaps, lean for taxi). Same thing for taking off (Light's, Camera, Action, etc). For me, reinforcing these flow-checks is every bit as important to practice as the actual act of landing the aircraft. So combining these two maneuvers would not allow you to effective complete these checks. Now if you want to practice go-around's and botched landing (with different flow checks) then that's a different issue. I do see the value practicing these maneuvers.
  13. There are still some really great FBO's out there. On my way up to Oshkosh this year we stopped at KJEF for fuel. I was met on the ramp by a guy from Jefferson Flying Service. We topped off the plane with maybe 20 gallons. The on airport restaurant was closed so they loaned us their courtesy car to grab lunch. When we returned, Oshkosh got socked in so we decided to stay there overnight. So they just tossed us the keys and said we'll see you tomorrow. The next day the weather wasn't moving so we opted to stay there one more night. Again, they gave us the keys to the car. Finally the weather broke and we headed out. Went to pay and to my surprise it was all gratis. So we basically got two days worth of tie downs and a car for maybe 20 gallons of fuel at a very reasonable price. Needless to say, they have a customer for life!
  14. Seriously??? You won them and you want $550 for the set? Capitalism at it finest!
  15. I get the Mooney Waggle from time to time and it doesn't bother me at all but it does bugger my wife some. For me it seems to show up more if gusty conditions than bumpy air.
  16. I try to always top it off and if possible run the car through the car wash.
  17. For me it was absolutely one of the best investments I've made. My plane has never run better.
  18. It sounds like you need the equity from the plane to put toward your new house. If that's the case, I'd recommend you do that and hold off purchasing anything until all the dust settles. Then at that point, you can re-assess your financial situation. I bet you will find it harder to find time to maintain currency while raising a family. So you might reconsider purchasing and rent until your kids are older and you have more spare time. Nothing worse than an plane that sets months between flights.
  19. This is a really screwed up market. It's neither a sellers nor a buyers market. There's tons of Mooneys on the market that have older avionics and dated interior and run-out engines that you can pick up for a song. But if you're in the market for a nice Mooney (pick your model) that has semi-current avionics (GNS430W, GTX330ES, GPSS, Auto Pilot w/Alt Hold, Engine Monitor), updated interior, good paint, sealed tanks or bladders, good shock disc and less than a mid-time engine, good luck finding one. There's very few on the market and the ones that are will go for top dollar. So basically, you have too options... You can use it like a car and scrape it out when your done with it. Or you continue to sink tons of money into it to keep it current and in like know condition and will maybe recover your purchase price when you sell it.
  20. Back in my aerobatic days, always slipped on final. So when doing my transition, I naturally started slipping on final. The instructor let me know that passengers are very uncomfortable when slipping so it's much better to crab then slip over the threshold. So I make a point of always keeping my crab in as long as possible when I have passengers.
  21. I just had my biannual IFR certification and the shop discovered that my alternate static air switch valve is leaking. Does anyone know of a source for one of these valves?
  22. I've used Aaron twice and can't recommend anyone higher. He's also just down the street from you. Stop by or give him a call.
  23. I know that Don Muncy flew out there not too long ago from Dallas. You might want to PM Don.
  24. I only wish I get that kind of flow though my overhead vents! Talking to PS Engineering, they seem to think it's a grounding issue. Tomorrow well to some tests to make sure that the jacks are not grounded to the airframe.
  25. Well, we were able to identify the source of my static (sounds like frying bacon) when not in ISO mode. It can be traced back to the charging system. Turning off the alternator and all the static is gone. I'll update the post as soon as the root cause if found...
