  1. Lance, I know I'm a poor communicator but you just said the same thing I did. An AHRS is an attitude heading reference system. Thats Avidyne should have incorporated into the 550 instead of the ARS.
  2. I think that was a design error Avidyne made with the 550. You are correct, to get full SV you must provide an AHRS input. They should have incorporated that in the 550 design and not require the input. That is where the flight path vector will come from on the display. Without that input, you will not get the FPV. I made a suggestion a few years back to them that they should use an AHRS instead of just a attitude source. Fell on deaf ears. You'll get the functionality you're looking for from foreflight and a stratus 2.
  3. There's a huge difference. You get what you pay for.......
  4. Buying an airplane never makes economic sense. Its an emotional decision. You buy an airplane because you want one, not because you need one. That being said, there is nothing like sitting in the cockpit and knowing everything is the way you left it. Doing what you want, when you want. That's hard to do if you have to share......
  5. I don't know if its standard procedure but it works. In my airplane I had the A/P install and override switch on a 337. So I don't have to blow in the pitot tube anymore.
  6. My F, serial number 6800XX, has an airspeed switch. No squat switch. Don't you just love how they changed the design in the middle of a production year.
  7. My number 2 used to run hotter than the rest too. The change I made was to make sure the baffle in the front of the cylinder doesn't have an air tight fit and that a little air can sneak past it in the front. The way that cylinder in made, if you have silicone sealed the baffle to the engine, it's easy to block the airflow through the front fins.
  8. Before you start digging into the retraction system, did you remember there is an airspeed pressure switch. Gently blow into the pitot tube and see if the gear. come.up.
  9. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article210737729.html sad end to the story.
  10. Personally, I'd be worried about that cam, hanging up there in the air, with no oil on it for 8 years, pitting. If that happened, the cam will be OK for a hundred hours or so and then it will gall. As long as you priced in an engine overhaul, then there will be no surprises.
  11. I would stay away from slicks. Lots of experience here. They don't last. Stay with Bendix.
  12. 38999 or thirty eight triple nine. Comes from the mil-std.
  13. I think he is taking about the silver box to the right of the shunt.
  14. I had a mag once that did that. It was rebuilt with a bad capacitor. It would always check good on the ground but sometimes it would not quite operate correctly under load. If it is a bad cap, it will do it again. Quick mag check in flight will tell you.
  15. Paul, I sent you an email. Skytrax 100 used to be called MLB100. Hope that helps.
  16. sad but I think your right.... when the automation stops working , these next generation pilots will be in trouble.
  17. Jerry, I think you should look at the new rules for enhanced vision. If you can see the environment at the decision height, you can continue with the landing. Its going to be a game changer. I think the future will head in that direction and we will get away from land based aids.
  18. Thank you for the post. I have one of the older A20s where I can only make phone calls. I always wanted to steam music, I'll take advantage of the rebate
  19. There was a service bulletin years ago for a dukes boost pump, that required the owner operator to install an inline filter between the mechanical and electrical pump. Check if you have that.
  20. Scott, worth a call to PS engineering to see if there is an upgrade path.
