  1. Check plug resistance. You may also have an intermittent exhaust valve sticking on #4.
  2. You can rent experimentals for flight instruction as long as they are operated with a letter of authorization from the FAA. The FAA begain allowing this several years ago to make it possible for builders to get transition training before flying their own planes. There is a guy down in Fl who gives multi instruction in an AirCam.
  3. I think I remember seeing some enforcement actions that happened over a couple of houses on some farmland. I would have considered sparsely populated, but they didn't.
  4. Is the plane currently located in this area?
  5. There is a member based at Bay Minette that might know of him.
  6. I've found that after adding an external antenna I get coverage in areas that previously did not have coverage and get 3-4 towers around my home area instead of one, but one tower is all you need.
  7. JKA is a very good trip. In addition to LuLu's there are a couple of go-kart track and put-put courses very close to the airport. We could also see how many Mooniacs can conquer the "Mountain Of Youth", it's only 3 stories! Perhaps we should start with Eufaula and rotate every 3 or 4 months between JKA Monroeville and Eufaula.
  8. Someone posted a 340 on Beechtalk last night.
  9. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that part of the overhaul will be a hydrostatic pressure test to insure the integrity of the tubes.
  10. Rent a cabin at the state park in eufaula for the weekend. Then ride into town around lunch at say gee honey, wonder what all the money's are here for. Let's stop and see what is going on.
  11. Eufalula is probably the best option if some of the Ga members are coming. The other option is David's Catfish in Monroville, Al. http://www.davidscatfishhouses.com/monroeville-alabama
  12. A couple of years ago a Cirus came up short. The video is online.
  13. I took care of a plane for a friend a few years ago for a couple of years while he was overseas. I usually flew it every 3 weeks and paid for the fuel. He still had to pay quite a bit for hanger, insurance and annual and a few other things. If you want to keep it it would be more cost effective to put it in a cheaper hanger, pickle the engine and reduce the insurance to non flying status.
  14. A lot of this is going to depend on who does it and how much your willing to get involved. The blank panel will have to have the cutouts made and be powder coated and engraved. If you can remove yours for a few days and give it to some who knows CAD and has a cnc router you can just buy a $30 piece of aluminum and have it cut to your specifications. Expect around $300, I got off easy, all the coworker who cut it wanted was to go up for a flight. Then go find a local powder coated shop, expect around $50. Then if you want it laser engraved with the markings you may have to send it to someone if there is not anyone local. Expect another $50-75. The key here is that you are just using local fabricators and tradesman and not a avionics shop. Then of course you will need a mechanic to install it. Assumming your not moving a lot of stuff around and no rewiring is needed an A&P should be able to do this in less than half a day. As for as the 930 I install my Jpi 900 under a friends supervision who is an IA. My opinion is that this isn't something that requires an avionics shop at $100+ hr as long as the IA is willing to read and follow the install manual. It's mostly connecting well labeled and color coded wires together.
  15. This plane or I mean boat seems to have a similar chair attached to it.
  16. Its not a starter relay, it is a continuous duty type. Based on its location its likely the relay for an avionics bus. You should be able to follow the control wire back to a switch and see for sure.
  17. 5 or 6 hrs a quart isn't bad. Oil is cheaper than cylinders.
  18. Looking on their website I see that have a sky catcher that rents for $89 hr in 20 hr blocks, so $3600 would get you 40 hrs in it. A min of 20 hrs of instruction is required so throw in 20 hrs at $70 hr and that's only $1400 for the instructor. $5000 total plus another $1000 for the incidentals.
  19. At those prices you could also just go buy a decent 150 in good condition to get your license in and then sell for around what you paid for it.
  20. Have you considered that perhaps the flight school is just stringing you along and milking you for all the hrs they can charge for? I'm having a hard time believing that a 172 and a sr20 rent for the same amount. It's usually twice as much. If after 15 hrs your still struggling to land and not getting any better you need to ask for a different instructor. Are there any local instructors not associated with the flight school who have a plane and instruct in it? The local CFI at our airport rents his 150 for $35hr plus the cost of auto fuel so around $45 hr total. He charges $25 for instruction. I believe all of his students have soled in the 8-12 hr range. It really sounds to me this school is looking after their best interest, not yours.
  21. I believe I could tell a noticeable difference in the amount of air through the vent after installing the 201 windshield. Now in the summer I mostly leave the vents closed and run the icebox. 2 bags of ice is money well spent if flying in the southeast in the summer.
  22. As an engineer who works for a company who also has a marketing dept I would say it was either one of two cases. All the design criteria, features, menus and screens are detailed by marketing. How that is accomplished is left up to engineering. 1. There was a marketing requirement for it to be different. 2. There was no marketing requirement for the pinout and the board layout guy did what was the easiest for him.
  23. The kit I got was 1/4". In talking with Russell a couple of years ago he told me he used a custom window and part number but that it shared the same shape as the standard 201 window. He did say that it would take more trimming to get the regular window to fit his mod. I suppose the good news is that the windows don't have a part number marked into them .
  24. Usb charges output 5vdc. Be sure the charger you are using will accept at least a 28vdc input.
