M20J Service Manual and Parts Catalog
ZuluZulu replied to sailcail's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
I made an offer Dec. 31 ... haven't heard back. -
I'm not @PT20J, but we both have MSEs and it sounds like I fly somewhat similarly so I'll add some data. Using the settings I mentioned above, my CHTs in cruise with cowl flaps closed are usually about 355. One is always a little cooler than the other three, around 335-350. I try to keep them above 350º based on the final paragraph in this Mike Busch article. I wasn't flying during the summer, but so far I've found it just about impossible to get them any higher than 370 no matter what I do. ADDING: The only flights I had during summer were ferrying the plane home after purchase. Found a few photos of the engine monitor from those flights: 354/354/361/353 (at 10.7 GPH), and another flight at 356/358/368/359 (at 10.5 GPH). So it seems the same will be true next summer.

I've been flying WOT/2550 RPM. Typically cruising between 6500-9500'. Sometimes overflying the Class B at 11500'. Being reminded of Bob Kromer's advice upthread, I might try using 2500 RPM again, as I did for the first 25 hours. Anyway, after using lean find and getting the same numbers enough times I simply lean to 12.0 GPH, which is 100º ROP, and that reliably delivers 155-160 KTAS according to the G5. I've also used 10.5 GPH for "economy" cruise, which yielded about 145-150 KTAS if memory serves. Much like @PT20J said, I like going fast.

Better Than New: The Full Refurbishment of N205J
ZuluZulu replied to Rmag's topic in General Mooney Talk
Question for you. After seeing and liking your panel setup, I just went with the GNC 255A underneath my GTN 750. Would you do the same thing now, or would you have gone with the GTN 650, GNC 355, or something else as your #2 radio/navigator?- 169 replies

80.3 in M20P (and that's in only three months, accounting for panel upgrade downtime after buying it in mid-summer) 3.5 in P28A

SOLD: 28V KX 155 (no GS), Repaired, with New Lenses
ZuluZulu replied to ZuluZulu's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds

Giving this its own post to get it off my shelf in the new year. King KX 155 removed from 28V aircraft. Was working when removed and has since been repaired by a professional shop, replacing all necessary internals except for the leading "1" digit on the COMM, which shows partially and does not affect operation. More than $300 spent on repairs. Also has new lenses. Will look great in your panel! New price: $950, firm, shipped CONUS. For other destinations, please inquire. Prefer Zelle or Venmo. PayPal also available. SOLD

WTB: Used/Salvage Glareshield Light Sockets

This one with dual 3.0A ability has worked well for me. Charges an iPad Pro no problem, and I've even used it to partially charge a MacBook Pro during a flight. The display and annunciations are nice added features.

Let @jgarrison know you're looking; that's how I found my Sidewinder.

Most of you are familiar with the ceiling-mounted light switch panel on long bodies and Allegros: I would really like to have these, but my plane is a little too old to have come like that from the factory. Has anyone ever tried to add this panel to a plane without it? Is this a rubbish idea, or a brilliant idea? Have I lost my mind?

What nav/comm radios will talk to the G5?
ZuluZulu replied to ArrowBerry's topic in General Mooney Talk
As @JimB said, not true. My G5s can select between GPS (GTN 750), NAV1 (GTN 750), and NAV2 (GNC 255A). -
That unique kind of "Battery Charger" that denies it's a battery charger right on the label... And a "Start Pac" that's not for starting!

Did Lightspeed pull the plug on the Tango headset?

Not sure what you’re looking at but on Lightspeed’s website the price is $850, the same it’s always been. -

They disappeared the PFX the same way. -
TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
ZuluZulu replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
My point, which I clearly didn’t make very well or I wouldn’t have to spell it out, was that they’re both fine navigators, I just found it odd to declare that one has no limitations when to me it’s clear that they both do. The IFD gives quite a lot of its screen space over to UI cruft, too. It has physical buttons down the left side but then gives the left side of the screen itself to frequencies and other elements. Sometimes there’s a column on the right side with more information, so the moving map is basically a little postage stamp, when it could have been made larger without the physical buttons. Some are going to like the IFD’s design with its limitations better, some are going to like the GTN’s, but I just think it’s silly to pretend there’s only one clear choice. It’s fine if people pick one or the other but it doesn’t mean one is for true IFR fliers and the other isn’t. If that’s not what you were saying, then I misread you. -

Ah, so it's not a limitation because you personally find a smaller screen "minor and operationally insignificant." To each his own I guess. -

A smaller display with lower resolution doesn't count as "limitations"? -
If anyone has a few of these little guys, please get in touch. Looking for at least four but would be willing to purchase an entire set. Need some of the sockets these screw into, too. By the way, has anyone ever bought these from LASAR? Is it just one of the pieces, or both the glareshield socket and the light receptacle that screws into it? P.S. Sorry the first photo is out of focus.
