  1. It sounds like the OP is relying on a lot of assumptions and conversations. Those will not help if this goes sour. Another example: a 10% ownership stake somehow giving him first dibs at buying it. Only if the agreement says so! The AOPA legal plan does not cost much and would be well worth it here, IMHO.
  2. Make sure that agreement outlines what happens if he decides after three years NOT to sell.
  3. And if this is what you're looking for, check BeechTalk often. There have been some pretty good-looking examples lately listed for reasonable prices.
  4. If on flight following they’ll ask which transition through the Bravo you want as you approach the airspace. Coming from Pismo he can probably get the coastal route without much problem if he asks, as you suggest. Special flight rules would require a descent to 3500’, which seems like an unnecessary waste of gas and altitude, the kind of thing ATC usually helps us try to avoid.
  5. The café at the airport has buffalo burgers; I assume there.
  6. Mine's supposed to be done next week...
  7. They're pretty clickbait-y, and he's fond of those annoying thumbnail images that are ubiquitous on YouTube. You know the ones: usually the person's exaggerated facial expression next to some all-caps text like "NEAR-MISS with STUDENT CESSNA????" Then after sitting through a 15 minute video you find out they were, at worst, 4 nm and 2000' apart, and it was never even mentioned on frequency. Just not my thing.
  8. You could do that. Or you could devote that energy to finding your plane instead.
  9. It took LASAR about one to two weeks to find wingtip lenses for me. Just received them last Friday.
  10. It might be semantics: not allowing the plane to leave the field may effectively prevent a reasonably thorough or independent pre-buy from being performed. Just curious: Have you ever done an on-site inspection, and are there any special considerations for a mechanic in doing one? Can the same quality job be readily accomplished under those circumstances?
  11. That's tough... but less than an hour's flight to a good shop is not much to ask for a pre-buy. And it sounds like you've already found a local CFI in @BrianWilkins who might be able to help with the ferry flight. The point of the pre-buy is for you as the buyer to make sure you're comfortable buying the plane at the agreed-upon price. If they're going to prevent you from checking it out properly, I would ask for a discount to account for the elevated risk you're being asked to take on.
  12. Can it be flown there? Should be less than an hour in a Mooney.
  13. Coincidentally, there is an AT for sale! https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20J+201&listing_id=2379906&s-type=aircraft
  14. I didn't notice the tiny print "first 12 months of service" in the flyer before, but if this rate lasted longer I would sign up right now.
  15. Or at least where they think those are. I just don't understand how this could possibly be a win for GA. Before, they were free to focus all of their energies on their GA product lines all of the time. Now, their attention is necessarily divided in order to supply "much of the manufacturing, supply chain and technical expertise" to an array of drone companies. Add on top of that their CEO publicly announcing going after the drone market because it offers growth opportunities, while GA is comparatively stagnant. Their resources might well increase, but there are going to be many more demands on those resources than just GA now. How can that be anything other than a giant distraction and setback to their GA business? And the drone companies outnumber them in this "like-minded" group! When the engineers and product managers and procurement agents and testers from all of their sister companies are calling all day every day trying to push their own products out the door, is Aspen really going to send those calls to voicemail so they can keep developing a brand-new 10" Evolution EFD 2000X HD? Just not buying the PR spin on this. But I appreciate Andy being here and answering the questions.

  17. Anyway, my #4 mask looks great but FYI it does run a little large for "lean of peak" faces. I had to modify mine by shortening the loops about an inch or so in order to get a snug enough fit. Without installing that STC, it kept slipping off. Maybe the Mooney Mask Mark II can incorporate adjustable straps? Thanks again, @Jeph357, I love mine!
  18. What does "like-minded aerospace company" mean? Does that translate to "our new bosses want us focusing on drones from now on," as it seems?
  19. Does your logbook show the factory names for the colors of your stripes?
  20. Is that for the first year only, or lifetime?
  21. Garmin advertises it with Connext, which officially supports only Garmin Pilot, FltPln Go, and certain Garmin portables. For ForeFlight integration, you would need to spring for the Flight Stream 510, which can install into the card slot on the GPS 175.
  22. Is that the internationally famous IO-720-powered beast on the left there??
  23. Not exactly...
  24. You think that's bad, just try installing Aries and Cancer cylinders on the same side, and watch the sparks fly!
