While this is somewhat true to an extent, I wouldn't completely agree with this. while summer clouds can mean convective activity (some of these happening in the last 3 weeks), The majority of the time your issue will be a marine layer. Also freezing levels in Socal are pretty high up there, usually being around 9 to 11 thousand feet in winter, and in the Mid teens in summer. and regarding the 90b, i have the KLN 94 in the eagle, and it has been nothing but a pain in the ass. I have wasted 100s of dollars buying downloads to update the card, and all its done is erase my most recent card so as of now, I'm stuck with a database from 2001, and have like 6 empty cards, that keep on telling me they're invalid for a new database. If I want to update it now, I need to buy a new card, which will set me back a "reasonable" 500 dollars, for a card that came out before I was born. Save your time and effort and find a reasonably priced 430 waas. In the long run, you'll be way better off.

Hartzell Acclaim 3 Blade vs MT Composite 4 blade?
Niko182 replied to Niko182's topic in General Mooney Talk
Mt is 2 to 4 inches smaller in Dia. what cruise do you get out of your 3 blade acclaim Prop? Question regarding the MT. do you pick the colour of the prop? http://www.planecheck.com/image.asp?Imgname=39689/img039168675065.jpg http://www.ovation-gmbh.com/ http://strategicaircraft.com/2000-mooney-m20-r-ovation-2-n77ph/# they are all the same model of props with different colours. -
Hartzell Acclaim 3 Blade vs MT Composite 4 blade?
Niko182 replied to Niko182's topic in General Mooney Talk
here it say full feathering. That's where i got that info from. https://www.mt-propeller.com/pdf/stcflyer/FL061US.pdf i believe MT doesn't offer a 3 blade and the 3 blade plastic prop that Hartzell offers i heard costs a fortune, and looking at the specs, it weighs 3.8 lbs more. I wouldn't sweat the 3.8 lbs, but spending 10 extra grand, to add 3.8 pounds is a little odd IMO. and paint is debatable. The paint on this plane is exceptional because sat in a hangar for about 10 years, not really being flown. 107 hours have been put on the engine in the last 3 months, somewhat humorous, as its flown more in the last 3 months since new ownership, than it has in the last 10 years. -
Hartzell Acclaim 3 Blade vs MT Composite 4 blade?
Niko182 replied to Niko182's topic in General Mooney Talk
what cruise do people with the 7498 see? what cruise do people with the Mt see? i saw all the previous pireps so I was asking for more long term reviews of the prop. I've read all the previous conversations about the mt slowly falling apart with its paint but that problem looks to have been solved a while back. -
Hartzell Acclaim 3 Blade vs MT Composite 4 blade?
Niko182 replied to Niko182's topic in General Mooney Talk
I wouldnt say empty, but it still has a couple tricks up its sleeve. Strobe light to led. Both vacuum and back up vacuum. The moritz gauges, 6 pack, kln94, kt76c, kx155 are all getting taken out over time and getting switched out with a 345r, gtn750, g500txi, gnc255, and a couple other things. And yes, the 4 blade does get the aircraft the 310hp stc with the 2700 redline. -
Well I've been slowly lurking around looking at the main 2 options once the decision to switch. As of right now I'm looking between the 4 blade MT and the 3 blade. Pros of the 4 blade: - Looks cool - I'll end up with a useful load of 1155lbs - More rearward CG at 44.06 in - Shorter takeoff and Landing distance - Full feathering - Did I say kool? - I heard they are turbine smooth Pros of the 3 blade: - Also looks kool - I'm guessing faster cruise. - not a pro but cg will be further forward at 43.55 - Also not a pro but useful load will be 1143 The MT has the majority of the pros, but I can't find prices of these 2 anywhere and I want some Pireps on what to expect from either. I heard numbers like 186-187 knots with the acclaim prop. What should I expect with the 4 blade. Also the 4 blade helps alot with a personal goal to get the useful load to 1200lbs.

quite sad that they certified the 600 for a cessna 182 which cruises way slower, has a lower takeoff weight, and way less power, than the long body moonies, yet they couldn't certify the 600 for the Bravo, Ovation, and Eagle. Ill probably pick the stec 3100 when the autopilot gets switched out in 52Q.

You have the choice of 4 props Thick, thin, and composite, or the mt 4 blade. Youre govornor goes from 2400 to 2700rpm. Hp is increased from 244 to 310 hp. Takeoff fuelflow is changed from 23gph to 31gph. Gross takeoff increases 168 lbs, which usually gives a useful load of 1150lbs. so you practically have a true 4 seater mooney that can seat 4 people, bags, and get some actual distance.
-
I call it the shitty prop because it doesn't really do anything great. takeoff performance is pretty bad, usually requiring more than 2000ft to takeoff at gross. climb is usually around 7 to 900 feet per minute at full weight. doesn't help landing distance, and it weights the same as the 3 blade acclaim prop while having a considerably slower cruise, takeoff roll, climb, and landing roll. its a decent prop, I just call it that as it isn't great for certain places, mostly short strips, which i happen to like to go to. put it this way. with your 3 blade, you gain 150lbs of useful load less than half the takeoff distance shorter landing roll way better climb you lose maybe 1 or 2 knots of speed. and with the acclaim prop, you give up nothing, (except a decent sized hole in your wallet) Dont forget, your 3 blade has that extra kool factor.

Does this autopilot require a turn coordinator like the majority of the other s-tec autopilots? does it also have the ability to be flown solely on alt hold mode without the roll servos activated? and can it be integrated with a g500 like some of the garmin autopilots? just trying to find some more information on this. sorry if i missed answers that have already been posted on here. Nik

I believe the new g500s are 4k screen and from what i heard, it makes the gtn750 look bad. Also, hopefully the gfc600 will literally be an "STCable" version of the gfc700. I hope it gets an stc for some of the long body mooneys.
-
just out of curiosity but why sell the eagle and get an ovation GX. with a difference in price of about 80 to 100 amu, you could put a decent g500 txi with eis, a gtn 750, have some nice paint, and a nice interior, with the added benefit of a useful load that the ovation will never even touch.
-
Got these results today 2300 RPM, WOT 100 ROP, 10000 FT, 14.3 GPH, 177 KTAS (OAT of 17 degrees C) 2300 RPM, 22 in, 100 ROP, 8000 FT, 14.8 GPH, 176 KTAS (OAT of 21 degrees C) at 15.2 GPH ill usually hit 181 to 182 Knots. I run the limited 244hp engine with the shitty prop.

G1000 WAAS upgrade parts availability ending
Niko182 replied to Oldguy's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I remember when I first joined this forum, I was arguing with @gsengle about how my plan was to go with a g1000 ovation. Glad he knocked some sense into my dumbass. would not want to have an none WAAS g1000 equipped aircraft at this time. It's a pity to think that just after 14 years of the service towards it, Garmin is already starting to leave the original g1000 behind. -
If I ever want to upgrade the STEC 30 on my aircraft, The GFC500 wouldn't have enough new features for me to consider an upgrade. The GFC600 on the other hand is supposedly a fantastic autopilot as it seems the mission of that autopilot was to sell a GFC700 that is STC'able in older aircrafts.

Niko182 replied to M20FanJesse's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Do you think you could you make it required that they have to put a useful load. Its criminal not to put a useful load for an aircraft. I was always confused why people never put it up (obviously because the useful load was shit, but in the end the useful load is gonna come out anyway.) -
just blow into the tank really hard.

if youre completely leaned out while the boost pump is on, no fuel is going to the engine. My guess, thats your problem. the way you're starting it, is exactly the same way than if you just started it without boost pump. My start procedure for a cessna that had the same engine as your J: Mixture Full rich boost pump for at least 5 seconds. Mixture Lean Throttle in 1/8 - 1/4 of an inch Start engine once it catches, mixture full rich. started like a charm everytime.

itll take a while but i have no doubt this will grow. Barnstormers is great for find cubs and all but its such a pain in the ass to navigate through the site. Can't wait to see this site blow up. -
my guess for the reason they're looking for a third member is to decrease the $70,000 load coming up in the next couple of months. youll pay 50 grand for your buy in and right after that at least another 25K just for maintenance in the next couple months. as @LANCECASPER stated, it seems like they are trying to own a bravo affordably, meaning cuting corners to save a few dimes, speaking relatively to the value of the aircraft. Not saying the engine needs an overhaul as it might still be running great but 2125 is pretty high, and it might not be runnout, but the way the owners have been maintaining the aircraft, they probably want a partner just to take part of the load off the overhaul price. Obviously this is my opinion. I could however be completely wrong.

I wouldn't mind being added if possible. just send me a PM. Nik
