How to on ground check the gear and stall horns

if you want to actually test the stall horn in a real world stall. put a towel over the stall vent and suck on it. -
damn. I was looking at that same eagle.

That competitor would be Avidyne i presume?

if you don't mind me asking, what does a setup like that add up to around. I personally was looking at 2 Garmin G500 Txi displays, one being the 10.6 in display, and one 7.6 in EIS display, GTN 750, GTN 650, and an L3 Lynx, or GTX 345. I like that, but obviously A plane has to come before I'm able to install a nice Panel. I'm just curious. -Nik-

Over the past 2 or 3 months, Ive been researching avionics, capabilities, prices, mainly just for fun when I was bored. I've noticed that people seem to install both a GTN 650, and a GTN750 in their aircrafts. As a result, I was a tad bit curious as of why? Aren't the 650 and the 750 exactly the same avionic, with a different screen size. I also noticed Garmin includes pictures of Panels including both the 750 and the 650 too, but I presumed this is only for marketing, which led me to asking.

thats the only one I could find.

Just curious but does anyone possibly know someone selling their M20S. I don't really care about the year, but preferably has a lower time engine, and would love the 280 or 310 STC. So far I've been able to find 1, and the information included wasn't very descriptive. Don't mind avionics too much, as I plan to upgrade, but the price would need to reflect the state of avionics, airframe, Engine, Damage history, interior, and the usual things. Thanks Nik

Maybe a 252, 262, or encore is what you are looking. Has the tirbo to get over the weather. The 252/262 can be aquired with tks and i believe the encore can have fiki. Encores are hard finds though. Only 19 of them available. IFR for these aircrafts is no issues. Mooneys have always been great IFR aircrafts.and they can be found within the budget you're looking for.

I wouldn't say ovations are slower. From what ive seen around here, ovations tend to have about a 180 to 185 TAS. the 231 my parents flew for 8 years would do 180 knots at 12,000ft, which is about the same. and useful loads can be found easily over a thousand pounds on some of the older ovations.

If youre going to be a pilot, I don't think thats really the best mentality to have. Every time I get in my plane, I know there is a chace/risk that i could possibly not make it out alive, but I don't say to myself "todays an okay day to die". Going out in an airplane crash is not a pretty thing. You might end up destroying your plane, yourself, your family, and somebody elses family if you fly through their house or their car. I myself am not an experienced Pilot. I have 120 hours, started flying at 14 and got my license this year at 18. if i told the DPE on my checkride, "It's okay if I die today. Ill be going somewhere better." I doubt he would want to get in the plane, even though he has thousands of hours. I understand the risk, but saying im fine with crashing my plane into a families house, killing them all, and myself, is not a mentality of a good pilot. You should have the mentality that you will make it down in one piece, but understand the risks too. The statement you provided above make me think resignation would apply to you from the 5 given hazardous attitude.

Why not take a loot at possibly a little less plane. Ive the cessna I fly is pretty similar to the dakota, as in it can carry stuff, its old, its, pretty slow ( a tad bit faster than the cessna), NA, and fixed gear. After taking a flight in an m20f, I noticed that things happen a lot faster. that was in a plane that honestly does maybe 25 knots faster. Going from a plane that does 130 knots, to an aircraft that can do 225 to 230knots cruise is a big leap in speed. Maybe consider something a tad bit slower, such as an Ovation, Eagle, 201, for NA, or if you really want a Turbo, a Bravo, 231, 252, or an encore. Most of the planes i just named, are already speed demons. All planes listed, except for the 201, will easily do over 180 knots at 8 to 12 thousand feet, and the turbos should come pretty close to 200, if not past it. The if the insurance price is scaring you, Maintenance on an acclaim isn't exactly cheap either. Top overhauls every thousand hours or less, High insurance, Major overhaul isn't cheap either, High annuals, high fuel flow (compared to an ovation or Eagle) and hangar (this is not an aircraft that deserves to sit on the ramp). For me and my family, the sweet spot we are looking for is the eagle, as it gets good fuel flow, the engine can actually get pretty close to the 2000tbo, from what I've seen on here, 13 to 14 GPH vs 22 to 23. also consider, will you be flying in the flight levels? I doubt in the dakota it made sense to go over 12,000 feet and wear oxygen. Are you going to actually fly above 14,000ft. if you're flying 8 to 12000 ft, the ovation or a missile is a better choice. I hate to be "that guy" but the acclaim is a lot of plane, probably getting pretty close to the piston lancairs. Does your mission truly require "all that plane".

Finding a properly good instructor is something that takes time. you find one that you don't "click" with and the joy of flying will disappear. Id recommend really shopping around. I found my instructor from a recommendation from a friend. Granted I wasn't able to fly for a month or 2 due to the transition of leaving my previous instructor and meeting him, but he prepared me so well for my check ride, and I actually enjoyed flying. Currently waiting til January for him now for him to get time to start my instrument, and I'm happy to wait knowing him and I click. Take your time and find an instructor. If a flight school told me "you're not gonna finish so don't start", steer clear of them and their very "positive" attitude. Their is no shortage of CFI's and CFII's.

Im stoked if my rental 172 can hit 110. What fuel burn and true airspeed did you have?
-
I think I'd pick up a nice corsair. maybe a FW-190 too, with a p-51 and a p-40. Still think the FW-190 is one of the best looking planes out there. It would be my first choice.

what is an AMU? relatively new here and never heard the term, except for Atomic mass unit, which doesn't seem to be right in this case.
-
Has a hell of a useful load. 1135 lbs. Most ovations cant even make 1000.
-
oops. forgot that i included the tbm. it was the most comfortable, and you can have it for a mere 4.2 million dollars.

from what ive seen ovations seem to be a great platform considering affordability, performance, and comfort. columbia/cessna can be comfortable, but when I was at the small demo show that was hosted, I got to actually, sit in a cessna TTX, mooney acclaim ultra, Beachcraft G36, and a TBM 930. The mooney in my opinion was by far the most comfortable. Im tall and skinny at 6 3 and 150 lbs. but when i got in the Cessna, it just felt awkward, also including that it has no room in the back seats. beachcraft was nice too, but I personally liked the acclaim, also tried sitting in the back, with the front seat in the position i fly in and there was more space in the back then in the front. maintenance wise, from what I looked up, cessna's are a lot to maintain(i mean carbon fiber cessna's). when I was doing the original comparisons, between the corvalis/columbia and the mooney I found out a lot of owners had put a lot of money maintaining their corvalis'. I have no doubt that the TTX, 400, 350 and 300 are great airplanes, but I feel like people just get more out of a mooney. The ovation is an affordable plane, relatively speaking to it's class of aircraft (NA high performance single engine aircraft), and extremely fast and extremely efficient, and I consider it one of the most comfortable planes I've been in. the list of planes that can take a 620 lbs family, over 700 nautical miles while still having vfr reserve, in about 4ish hours, in comfort isn't very big. That's at least why i believe barely any are for sale. The plane truly is remarkable. My opinion has always been that cirrus', are the plane for the wife. It's has a chute, so she let him buy it. Mooney's are the plane for the pilot. No wonder barely any people are selling ovations. they're so damn good. but then again, i don't own one so i could be completely wrong. i'm just going off what other people say and my minimal experience with the ovation.

if you ever decide to fly your A/C by the POH numbers, you might notice that you are going to need overhauls quite often. at least that is with the 231's, 252's, encores, and all long body mooneys. I'd also easily believe 200knots at 25,000ft. Top speed of the 252 was 219knots, so 200knots cruise seems pretty reasonable.

thats a pretty impressive GS.

I guess I could say I was a bit younger getting my license. I started at 14.

someone should make a turbine M-18 mite because they can. That would be one of the coolest planes ever.
-
might work on an M-18 mite. anything else and you're going to need a lot more power.
